The Rockets were #2nd in the West with a young core of players 23yrs and under. And with a 20yr old player on the bench, despite how some may feel, had star potential, in Cam Whitmore. They traded away two young players, who had the ability to become future All - Stars and a #10 pick, who many thought to be the best center in the draft for a 37yr old HOF and signed a 31yr old role player to a 3yr deal. IF THEY MAKE OR DON'T MAKE THE NBA FINALS IN THE NEXT 2YRS, WILL THIS BECOME THE OFF SEASON TO REMEMBER?
They traded away garbage for a shot at winning. If it works, great, if it doesn't, no big deal. If you want, you can go follow the garbage on their new teams, no one will miss you.
We get it. You are in love with green and athletic players. Just keep it it to one thread per month please.
It might be, trading for Durant is a risk. It could be viewed as impatient if he gets hurt, or age catches up, or it could lead to being a contender, it is a risk for sure. As a Rockets fan we hope it works out great, even parts we may not like. DD
Its definitely a risk! As of now, I have the Rockets rated as the 3rd best team in the West behind OKC and Denver. I love what Denver did, which is what I had hoped the Rockets would have done. They added a better wing in Cam Johnson, basically kept their starters in tact an added depth. Im concerned because it seems like Stone has turned over GM duties to Ime. The Green trade, is what it is but the Cam trade, I have some serious questions about. Brings up taughts of B O'B trading Hopkins. However, this offseason was a big change for better or worse.....we shall see!
Denver still doesn't have any defense. Its more likely that we'll keep 'em around 100 pts, than them keeping us under 110 pts
Remembered as the turning point from rebuild to contender? Hell ****ing yes. But not the nonsense you're talking about lol, I'm sure you'll remember all your salty tears I guess?
They have Sengun, Jabari and Amen for the next few years, and probably Eason and Sheppard too. There would never be room for 7 youngs. I’m fine
Remember what exactly? WE WERENT GOING TO WIN **** with Nail polish Green and man baby Whitmore. There are plenty of stat filler "stars" on sorry teams, I will not be surprised if these 2 become that. As far as them helping us with a championship? Not a chance and no thanks.
Good point but I think if Reed had shown more his Rookie yr, I would feel better about the remaining core moving forward.
I'm scared Ime is going to play both KD and FVV each 36 minutes with no load management. But he coached under Pop who started the "Tim Duncan out due to old". Something has to give right.
Truthfully we clinched way earlier and lost the last few games on purpose. It wasn't as close as you think.
If it doesn’t work out I could see a the same people celebrating Green being traded will be calling for Stones job not keeping him and drafting Maluach We will see. I’m excited for KD but Cam being traded was the most disappointing move of the rebuild to me
The trade of Cam ruined the offseason and no longer makes us an elite contender. We can all gripe about his attitude, but he was a point per minute guy, who with opportunity could easily average over 20 ppg. We don’t have anyone other than 37 year old Durant who can do that. We lost Green, Cam, Brooks, and lottery pick for Durant (DFS and CC are average players). Wasn’t necessary to do all that for KD at this age. He’ll be good next year but in two years Cam will be averaging more than Durant and will only be freaking 22 years old. Durant will be nearing 40. I can’t put in words how much the Rockets royally screwed up by getting basically zilch for a kid who averaged 12 ppg and 10 ppg in extremely limited time and isn’t even a senior in college at just 20 years old. Don’t care about his attitude, as I’d be pissed too with all his skills (scored 30+ his last start and then didn’t see playing time basically rest of year). Reminds me of Del Harris with Kobe Bryant….benched him his first 2-3 years, got traded and the rest is history. Check out today’s Yahoo sports headline which says the Rockets got robbed in the trade and that it was one of the most lopsided trades in recent history. Put lipstick on the pig, but to deny the damage we did by replacing Cam this year with Jeneethan Williams is ludicrous!!!
They pushed a chunk of chips in when they saw their opportunity. But they didn’t push them all in. They still have a young core and several valuable picks. I was not a proponent of pursuing Durant, but I am happy with the price they got him for. And I think the team, as constructed, should be able to compete now and in the future. It was clear to the capalogists that Cam’s salary would have to come off the ledger. Because it took a while to get a deal done, I think there was some hope he would stay. It just wasn’t in the cards. He was ultimately part of the cost of bringing Durant, DFS and Capela in. It’s an offseason to remember because the team got aggressive and took a shot. And they didn’t push not do it in a stupid way, like the Suns.
That part is still to be written - we have to be a lot better now with these moves - and a championship contender - if we are treading water, with a 37 year old Durant that is a failure. DD
