I think what makes this particular situation more challenging to get over is that Cam’s talent was apparent for all to see. And while he had a lot to learn about the fundamentals and team basketball, he was an incredibly productive scorer at such a young age. His talent is special. I suspect he would have played a lot more on most teams and his trade value would have been a lot higher.

but part of the cost of winning is a shorter development runway for players. If Cam had been drafted in 2021 we are probably looking at a very different player value. We let our young guys run wild. But he was drafted in 2023 as we pivoted to winning with a coach who only plays 2-way guys. Everything changed once Ime got here.

so I get the disappointment a lot of fans are feeling, but at the end of the day we have a coach who took us from the basement to 500 to #2 in the west in two seasons. I don’t think he’s losing sleep over moving off Cam, and as long as we keep winning, us fans shouldn't either. If we are in the Western Conference Finals next yr no one is gonna care about this deal.

Because we got Durant with Jalen as the main piece? You are not going to tell me Brooks and #10 landed us Durant, are you? And what did trading Cam get us?

The #10 pick was the best piece the Suns were offered, thus why they accepted the trade.

Unles you're so stupid you've convinced yourself that Jalen Green - the player they immediately tried to find a third team for - was the prize possesion of the trade?

You know, the player they couldn't find another taker for hahahahaha.

Oh god. Jalen clowns. When will they stop embarrassing themselves.

Welp, since I live in DC, I guess I’ll finally get to see him play. Just in the wrong uniform.

Does this make us the first franchise in history to lose a trade with the Wizards?

So Durant is only worth a #10 pick now? lol. You can’t be that stupid. Or maybe you are.

Suns didn’t want Jalen because they had Booker and Beal. They couldn’t find a taker for Jalen because maybe their asking price is way higher than two 2nd rounders that Cam was traded for? Get that through your thick skull.

You see, it's funny you try to say otherwise, but the league dictated what Durant is worth. Proving you utterly wrong.

I cannot fathom being as idiotic as you, and talking from a position of knowledge when you're spouting absolute utter garbage which is proven to be wrong hahahah.

Jalen fans. Can you please just leave clutchfans already, stop dragging down the quality of this forum.

The Suns didn't want jalen because they have...... Beal..... a guy they'd kill to get off their team? LMFAOOOOOO HOW ARE JALEN FANS THIS STUPID

Assuming Stone has done his due diligence and shop around the league to test the market, this poor return just shows me how low interest teams have for a guy like Cam Whitmore.

Maybe they have wised up due to the Kuzmas, Woods, and Pooles of the world. Dynamic but inefficient scorers who play subpar defense and team ball. It might also explain why Jalen Green didn't get much interest around the league.

TBD. I think there's a decent likelihood Cam ends up out of the league by age 30, never having done anything that significant (i.e. maybe some 6MOY votes a couple of years or something). A relatively good outcome for him would be he ends up with a JR Smith kind of career, a very good 6th man with some personality problems (hopefully not as bad as Smith's).

I just kinda doubt that even if we "lose" this trade, we're going to lose any sleep over it. It's hard for me to envision Cam's path to being a championship-level starter given his attitude issues and on-court limitations.

Imagine Suns tell their fans they traded Durant for Brooks #10 and 7 freaking 2nd rounders (5 plus 2 that they may get for Jalen according to downtown stripper)!!! There might be mass suicides happening in Phoenix right now.

A reminder again: Cam’s agent is also Ant’s agent. Doing them a favor by giving Cam a chance to play can pay reputational dividends down the road.

“Asset maximization” is not always about winning every short-term deal.

His value was already identified in the Suns trade.
Suns asked for 2 additional 2RPs instead of Whitmore. Rockets simply got those picks back, probably at a better slot too.

If you see this as the continuation of that trade rockets just moved up in the draft for free.

Jalen Green is twice as good as him
That’s why a team traded KD

    Not yet!!

I imagine Whitmore will score plenty and look great and all, and I loved watching him as a Rocket and WISH he was here this year, hr had a fantastic NBA build and aggressive game.

But in fairness, the dude is one-dimensional. Passing is an afterthought and defence an optional extra.
I ignored the glaring weaknesses while he wore Rocket Red because I wanted to believe he'd overcome them.
Now I'm more interested in what we get with the freed up capspace!!

It was expected. Poor decision imo and not a great return, but at least he went to the East and not the Lakers or a Western conference team. If he gets opportunities this may be where he reaches his potential over years.
