Was it just me or was TNT's Hi-def *awful* compared to, say, ESPN college football or Fox's world series coverage. Pixelization, fog, and smudges everywhere. Or did I have one too many hoegaardens during the national anthem. Does this belong in another forum? MrB
My friend brought over his HDTV box last night and the picture was spotty, pixellated, and jerky through the first half and dropped completely during the second half. I was pi$$ed.
It was like hi-def for the 1 and part of the 2nd quarter or something...and then it seems like it went to standard def. If you watched a bit of the lakers game yesterday, it was definitely hi-def there.
I agree. the quality in Detroit was awful compared to L.A. But then again it WAS KOBE!!!! 1st quarter was ok, 2nd quarter and afterwards was hurtful to the eye.
i had the same problem here in austin. in fact, i phoned time-warner cable and complained about my hd box/service. when i re-set my box, the hd feed returned temporarily. this may have been coincidence based on what i'm hearing from this thread. after the game i turned the set off and went out to dinner. when i returned, and turned the set back on, the lakers game was broadcasting in hd. i have a TWC serviceman on the way to my house to check out my box as i write this. btw, espn hd feed seems to have the clearest picture followed by fox, imo. i'm really glad this thread is here...i feel better already.
I don't think it was Time Warner's fault. I think it was at the source. But their HiDef even sucked before it switched to standard def. Quality really varies between HiDef stations. I wonder if the cameras in certain facilities create additional issues.
I tell ya what... I didn't like TNT's score ticker. If a player made a free throw, it would advance two digits and then roll back one. If a player made a field goal, it would advance 4 digits and then roll back two. That was abso-friggin-lutely annoying as hell. -- droxford
I thought it was me.....I turned back to the regular TNT insted of the hi-def TNT. I've seen other sports games on hi-def, and they look great. But the Rockets game did not look good at all. I have Time Warner, but I don't think it was them...
The 2nd half was screwed up for some reason. I liked how the first half looked, and with the wide screen is showed a lot more of the court.
Yeah, I was really enjoying it until the signal cut out briefly and then came back in a format that hurt your eyes. We tried going over to standard TNT, but regular cable TV is worse than bad HD I guess. They're still working out the kinks I guess.
the serviceman just left the house...confirmation of the faulty tnthd feed(which we already assumed.) other hd info: i just got my hdtv on thursday so i haven't had a chance to really experiment with all the options. the dude hooked up some analog (rca) cables from the box to another video input on the back of the hdtv. when we switched to a regular (analog) channel the picture quality improved dramatically. i know that some of you are familiar with this, but being a rookie, this was new info. i just wanted to share that in case others might not know (or be new to the technology.) btw, hdtv rocks!!!
That was annoying the piss out of me. Every 3 pointer, advance 2, advance 2 more, take off 1. Are they using a computer built in the '50s?
that score ticker had to be the most annoying thing about the cast. It took TNT like 2 minutes and a commercial break to change the Rox score from 8 to 10 in the first quarter. I spent the entire night wondering what the hell the real score was since I had to step away from the game for 10 minutes, cuz throughout the whole time I watched, they musta delayed updating the Rox score at least 5 times.
It was as if the score was being conrolled by an old man and an analog dial .... he would turn the dial a little too far, then back.. then forward. really really REALLY annoying. I sure hope that was just a technical difficulty and not by design. -- droxford
thats the first time i watched TNT hi def...it seemed as though TNT cut back to regular TV 1/2 way thru the game and then came back at the end...very weird
Well i watched the Minnesota game tonight and it was really good..i guess they fixed the feed or whatever difficulties they were having.
