I don’t understand this. Holiday and Cam plus pick(s) would send out 8.4 for 7.5. Keeping us under the 1st apron. I don’t think there is an obligation to keep 15 people on the roster. I’m not being argumentative just want to know what I’m missing.
Part of my optimism for Cam is that his first year stats are better than Jalen's first year stats. His are better almost across the board per 36: better FG%, 3pt %, Reb, Stls, Ftr, and all of the advanced stats. Were those in garbage time or not, I don't know (but I think that's been overstated). And I think Jalen benefited from playing with starters but Cam had the uncertainty of coming off the bench. Cam regressed last year but I think that's a combination of low usage, pulling him at every mistake, and a mandate to play Jalen Green because he was the #2 draft pick and they invested $100 million in him prematurely. Cam wasn't getting playing time last year in part because of that. And drafting Reed Sheppard third didn't help open up playing time. Cam may pout but is super young and played really well his first year. I think a lot of people are just pouty because Cam was pouty. They think if Cam pouts then he should be gone. That's not how a smart professional team works. Remember when Hakeem wanted to leave? Kobe? Shaq (first request)? Magic? I'm not saying Cam is like them as a player, but that teams did not give in to their demands and benefited from keeping them. Do Ime and Cam really not get along? It's hard to tell if that's true or just fan fabrication. Trading Cam would be a mistake. At least play him until the deadline and see how he does. His salary is nothing in the NBA - play him and see if we should trade him or keep him. If Cam wants to go then this is your last chance to see what he has before trading him.
The reason why I think they need Cam at this point, is exactly what you alluded to, no one else can come in and put up points in a hurry. All good teams had a 6th man who could put up points. The Pistons had Vinney Johnson, the Celtics Danny Anige, and the Rockets Sam Cassell just to name a few. I know what Cam can do, I still haven't seen it from Reed as of yet. If Reed had shown ANYTHING last yr, I would feel better about possibly trading Cam. What alarms me, is that most 6th men jobs are to come off the bench and provide SCORING. Why people can't see that? If they provide playmaking and/or defense, that's a plus.
It’s not just about scoring points, it’s about net points. Basketball is a team sport played on both sides of the court. If Cam comes in and does not include the other 4 players on the court and plays bad team defense then the unit he is a part of loses. All the guys you listed were team players with multiple skill sets. So far, Cam has only exhibited one. I hope this pre-season he can show that he can contribute on both offense and defense and is coachable. He will not be gifted minutes without exhibiting work ethic and professionalism. It is not how Ime works. For all his deficiencies, Jalen had an impeccable work ethic and attitude.
We all want Cam to stay a Rocket for at least half a season to increase his trade value at a minimum, but sadly he’s gone one way or another in the next 24 hours. If Rockets can’t get the Lakers to give them a couple second rounders then they will cut Cam and he can go to any team for free. Next 24 hours….so stay tuned to your phones.
He might be, he might not be, I don't think they are going to give him away - best to keep him and let him compete. All the fake media buzz has been speculation - not sourced.......and no one has heard from Cam's side....which I find interesting - if I were him and wanted out, I would LOUDLY demand a trade. If an org is keeping you down, you have a responsibility to your career to get out.....it may not even be the org doing it on purpose, just circumstances, but with a short NBA career you have to get to where you can shine to earn as much $$$ as possible. DD
Any good free agents we can sign than fit our needs, if we can offer about 4M if we trade Cam for picks? Deanthony Melton, Malcolm Brogdon…
I wasn’t addressing timing. Nothing we do from here on has a specific deadline, other than the trade deadline, but if that is what JoeJoe was saying it explains my question.
If Cam’s here Monday we all celebrate, but almost zero chance he is. As Bima has been saying we have a hard cap that kicks in (I believe it’s July 6…tomorrow). Cam is only move to save the team from huge luxury tax. If no trade for second rounders is done he gets waived. Doubt that Udoka is going to fall on the sword to save a pouter who cries to the media and a bad teammate in order to cost the organization millions upon millions of dollars. DD….me and you agree that he’s a star in the making, but money is money and business is business in the NBA.
I know more than you do as you just said that we can’t trade Holiday because he already signed with us. Great knowledge on your part as usual. Here’s a fast fact for the uneducated (i.e., you)….Holiday hasn’t signed yet. Please do some homework before posting your garbage.
Has that been verified? If so, that would be the easiest choice in the world. The Apron is complicated and we’d need someone like Bima to confirm.
I’m not the one that said Holiday can’t get traded. Maybe you should follow the thread. But don’t bother, I’m putting your BS on ignore.
Thanks! As many of you know…I am a huge Cam fan and a huge non-fan of Nate “gunner w/no outside shot”Williams. Still wonder if Udoka values Nate more than Cam, because Nate obviously has a much better attitude.
Due to him being an extremely low salary contract, he can only be used as a filler....maybe for a second round pick but he is surely not a hot commodity.
