If Whitmore does stay, we may see this second unit. Reed Whitmore Finney-Smith Eason Adams/ Capela That would definitely be a green backcourt, but still full of potential and offset by a very solid defensive frontcourt.
I really don't understand how people think he couldn't win a minute from Jalen Green's minutes but he will take minutes away from Amen. What's the logic there? Amen is the full time 2 and sometimes 1 now. When he plays the 1, Holiday and Sheppard are perfectly capable of filling the other spot and both were ahead of Whitmore in the rotation last season. They both bring other skills that Whitmore doesn't have (namely unselfish passers and high work ethic even in garbage time). There's no minutes at the 3/4 neither for Amen or Cam. You have DFS, Jabari, KD, Tari and Sengun splitting those minutes. Just count the minutes, there are no minutes for anyone else. Honestly we're really good now. He's just not been good enough to get minutes on this team and he's a 3rd year player now. What it's going to take for Cam to get minutes is not someone's charitable heart. It's going to be an offseason of work on his catch and shoot or handle plus asking the team to please be in the summer league to sharpen his skills and show off some defense/passing plus reports that he was one of the most focused on defense and teamwork in training camp. THEN he'll be on the waiting list to see if anyone else - who earned their spot before him - slips up. Then he'll get garbage minutes and if he treats them like a professional it could grow from there. We're a long way away from that. He can do all that without anyone's help.
No one sees this stuff when they talk about his effort. I’ve watch every minute he’s played early in games and winning time, he makes good plays and bad plays like literally everyone else on the roster. What’s the Real issue here? Rockets should hang on to him, it wouldn’t hurt us to keep him. We need the scoring depth just in case. If he’s still pouting about PT after earning at least 15-20 mins a night then trade him. I don’t think the Rockets should be giving away any young talent atm, especially the ones that haven’t really played.
I am starting to think we are slow playing him on purpose to make him take a qualifying offer or team friendly deal once his Rookie deal is up. The upside of Cam is obvious, If the Rockets wanted to dump him they would have already. Josh Christopher, Ty Ty Washington and Usman Guruba all where drafted by us and are gone because they were not good enough. Stone dumped them all with the quickness once he no longer so a path forward. The fact that Cam is still here says something.
This. Dumping JG was a no brainer. Cam has the potential to blow up in the Rockets face. Rockets aren't going to trade him for a simple first rounder no matter how much the media pressures them to. Lol @ anyone that actually thought they'd trade him to the ****ing Lakers.
The Rockets mouth piece is trying to drive up the price for Cam. I don’t think there is any doubt that they would trade him for a mid-round FRP. Maybe not for 1 single FRP at the bottom of the round. I also believe that Cam’s agent has asked the Rockets to find a home for him. I hope it’s all BS and they are going to give him one more shot to be professional, but I doubt it.
Dumping JG for Durant was a no brainer. Dumping JG in general was not. They have put an amazing amount on Amen’s shoulder to be a creator and facilitator off the dribble. No one else on the team is good at it.
I've always said: Whitmore is an elite finisher, but he's a mediocre creator. Rox were playing JG because we didnt have a perimeter creator. Now with KD, maybe Whitmore can see more minutes and usage as a SG finisher. Maybe. He'll have to fight DFS and Eason who can easily slide into the SG minutes. It's not going to be easy...
Isn’t he actually pretty awful in the paint? I thought I read somewhere he was at like 41% in the paint. That’s terrible.
Finishing is actually what he’s quite good at. Whitmore shot .561 eFG inside the paint which is actually pretty solid.
He didn’t finish well and had no passing game, but when his 3 pt game was working he was the only one that could get to the hoop until Amen got his chance. Jalen single-handedly won us quite a few games. Lack off consistency and bbiq proved to be his downfall and he will never succeed as a Batman.
