Not to mention the team already committed to seeing what Green had. He was the #2 pick, they gave him his moment in the playoffs to show what he had. He showed the team where he’s at and the team adjusted. If Cam wasn’t an issue ( which he is and I stated as much long ago) he would have his time to show who he is this upcoming season. He might still get his time, not sure if they trade him or not. I’m hoping Cam gets another season regardless of what’s gone on. I love his potential. That said, if they made up their mind, it tells me the org doesn’t like the hat he’s shown them from a mental standpoint. Anyone claiming he was railroaded by Ime, doesn’t know what they are taking about. You can only play so many young guys. Work your ass off, keep your mouth shut and bide your time.
That is stupid, and not how it works anymore. You have 2 -3 years to earn your next contract, if he isn't going to get that chance here he should be demanding a trade. DD
I think there's levels here. He may be a malcontent and they also may be deciding that the tax/apron implications aren't worth it and him being unhappy is a convenient reason to move on.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...eason-durant-trade-title-chances-20404063.php Houston is expected to waive center Jock Landalebefore his July 7 guarantee date and could also find a new home for wing Cam Whitmore in exchange for non-player assets. Ideally, the Rockets would like to trade Whitmore to a team where he could play more and one that offers the best value return; because of the Rockets’ roster crunch, that would take the form of draft picks.
Ime must have issues with him is the only thing that makes sense here. This team could use one or two more guys who can create their own shot and break down perimeter defenses, and I thought Cam was going to play an important role as a 6th man scorer this season. If Amen and Reed make major jumps I don't mind losing him, but to trade him just to trade him seems weird.
draft pick assets is what I want for Cam. Our roster is full. Swapping Cam for another player doesn’t make much sense to me at this point. I love the idea of recouping some of Cam’s value through the draft.
They need the cap space. After waving Landale they have less than 1 million under the 1st apron. He will be traded for picks. It’s not a lot of money, but it makes a difference. Ime is absolutely not impressed with him. I’m guessing a lot of other GM’s are wary as well. We could really use a pick next year, I think we will get one that is either top 10 or lottery protected. Once they signed Tate the writing was on the wall.
Or, and this is the one thing nobody seems to be considering, Cam doesn't want to be here any more because he knows he's not going to get minutes and he thinks he's a star? It's not just an "Ime's the devil" scenario or nothing lol.
My view is about the same. I think it is somewhat similar to #2. He's not likely to be good on this team because he won't be able to earn more PT as is. And the longer we keep him on the bench, his trade value will get lower.
Why trade him if we aren't going to receive anything in return? VanVleet or Reed could go down with an injury early on and Cam would be a nice option to have. IT isn't like he is going to hurt his 2nd draft pick value now, and his salary is already under the 1st apron.
Cam actually isn't very good at creating his own shot and breaking down defenses in the half court. He's best at catch-and-shoot 3s and finishing on the break.
Not a big fan of Cam. His on the court demeanor and body language is immature. But, where is this malcontent noise coming from. The same crap was said about Brooks. His on the court antics, a locker room cancer. Hated the signing. The team will miss him more than JG. Actually grew to like what Brooks brought to the team’s identity. There is room on this roster for Cam. He has to grow up both emotionally and expand his BBIQ. The team will be lucky to get 65-70 games from KD. Even less from Adams, DFS, and Capela. In addition with Brooks gone there will be plenty of opportunities for Cam to show his worth. Brooks was able to bully opponents defensively. Cam could offensively/physically bully opponents. Again, if they decide to trade him, so be it. He’s a 21 year old kid. Some people at that age are more refined than others. He isn’t content with his minutes, that doesn’t make him a malcontent or disruption.
I'd target the Pacers, Celtics, Bulls, Nets Heat and Bucks for future draft capital. If they own another teams first along with a protected first of their own for Cam. These guys could spend next season grooming him in a starting role and then getting first dibs on an extension. Im not sure if theyd have RFA rights or if trading him changes that rule.
