There were spot minutes at 2-3 positions that he could have filled...... Those 2 don't overlap, Jalen Green is 2 inches shorter than Cam Whitmore. I am pretty confident that he would play both Forward positions with his new team and if they let him, SG.
This isnt true. Im sure teams are lowballing right now but I wouldn't trade Cam for a simple first round pick nor do I think the notion that 5 second rounders have more value than a guy who has shown to be capable of being an efficient-ish volume scorer with NBA size and an affinity for contact. The Rockets are looking to potentially trade Cam but it won't be for peanuts. NBA teams are hoping they can get him for peanuts.
It's the offseason on an internet message board. Clutchfans literally exists for discussions like this!
You've been on this board for 15 years---more, if it took you a while to get a username---and you haven't figured out what offseasons here are like?
.... maybe throwing temper tantrums and visibly dogging it when he was out there led to this reduction of spot minutes?
When he's waived this will be amusing Kelly iko keeps feeding the bs line the Rockets see Whitmore as part of their future. Maybe Patitta or whoever gives him this does - but the guy obviously calling the shots - udoka - doesn't see him as part of the past or present and they just resigned JaeSean tate. So, not sure whose future this is
I don't know if he's going to get waived but it's definitely as or more likely than Cam Whitmore being traded for more than "a simple first round pick" or "5 second rounders," Like I said, the Rockets words: "we value him highly" The Rockets actions: "we see you as somewhere between Tate and Jack McVeigh"
That is bad coaching, yank em out....SURE - tell them why, and put em back in......wax, rinse repeat until you break them of that habit. Yanking them out....sitting them.....when they are watching a Crap player play in front of them only leads to more frustration as a belief starts that all rules are not being applied evenly, because they aren't...it undermines what Ime is saying. DD
There seem to be two schools of thought about trading Cam. 1. Play him more minutes to increase his trade value--assuming he is good but has been held back by Udoka. 2. Trade him now while he still has some value (on potential)--assuming it is not likely he will be good in the near future on this team. I am leaning more on School #2. I just hope he won't go the ways of Josh Christopher, TyTy Washington, and Daishen Nix. I know, I know. He has shown more talent than those guys. And that's why I am also wary of trading him at a low value. Let's see how it goes.
DD curse strikes again. another young player about to be cast aside because DD cant stop glazing for the betterment of the team. sad. I hope Reed is gonna be okay, I know DD loves him the most. i don't understand what they cant get through to cam this is crazy.
Time will tell about Cam, I think he is going to be special. He will need to go somewhere that has the type of coach that will believe in him and let him learn from his mistakes, hopefully he gets there soon. DD
3. Trade him soon because he's going to have a tough time getting PT needed to adequately assess his potential prior to him being extension eligible. I like Cam's potential, but I would not want the Rockets to pay him on potential when there is a good chance he will be competing with guys that have already shown something . The Rockets, if they take it to RFA, will be bidding against teams that have the time to pay for potential. Granted, I would not give him away.
all i know is it pretty tough to go somewhere else and thrive. The NBA is a place where talent goes to die. unless you are a top draft pick they wont give you the time to develop. Cam's place on the team was (should have been) cemented with Jalen getting traded. He can't be this dumb to want to go somewhere else.
if we are just intent on getting rid of him because he’s a malcontent, I am fine with that. when I would much much rather give him 20 minutes a game for the first 25 games and see how it goes.
LOL, success rate with this ask is around zero percent, roughly equal to "can everyone stop replying all?"
Part of that was simply opportunity, a lot of minutes and a green light to hoist up shots. One player got that, the other didn't. I'm fairly certain that given that same kind of opportunity, Cam would put up at least similar counting stats and probably more consistent shooting. Cam actually had better shooting percentages from 4 of 5 sectors of the floor - at the rim, 10-16, 16-3p and 3p, Jalen was only better at the 3-10 range (and FT shooting). Yes, Jalen is the better passer and facilitator - at least for now. The problems for Cam are that he was stuck behind a higher draft pick and now that he isn't, this team really doesn't have the luxury of giving a young player that kind opportunity (30+ minutes & 16+ shots), particularly in what appears to be a very tight western conference. It's fairly obvious that Jalen is the more polished player .... but his potential appears to be topped out, where Cam still has potential to be much more .... or nothing different than we've seen so far.
