With all the injuries Espada will need to get creative the next 4-6 weeks... Here's what I would do... 1. CF Jake Meyers 2. RF Cam Smith 3. DH Jose Altuve 4. 3B Isaac Parades 5. 1B Christian Walker 6. C Yainer Diaz 7. LF Jacob Melton (due back soon) 8. 2B Brendan Rodgers (due back soon) 9. SS Mauricio Dubon Leans more into defense. If we don’t have hitters we need to win with pitching and defense. I like Dubon at the 9 spot because if he gets on he has some speed for the top of the lineup.
Not going to be easy. thankfully the schedule isn't too tough. We need to do a prayer vigil for Yordan the next few days.
Uhm, meltons not due back any time soon my dude. I’m not even sure Rodgers is injured, but if he is he isn’t running around doing any baseball kind of things.
I guess the google search was incorrect on Melton. It said about 4 weeks in mid June. Rodgers should be a couple of weeks out. All I can go by is data I have.
June 15 SI article: "Brown told the Astros' pre-game radio show, in a report filed by The Athletic's Chandler Rome, that Melton's injury would sideline him for about four weeks." We're in week 3.... if it's 2 weeks more then that's 1 week longer than estimated. It's an ankle sprain, not a broken leg or something. I'm sure we'll find out it really was a broken leg when he tries to do rehab assignments, but until then hope for the best.
Baseball savant 90ft speed: Meyers - 3.93 Dubon - 3.99 He has speed compared to the other bottom of the order hitter options.
Yes. He had a great season in which his bat was so good his defense there didn't matter. They stopped him in CF because the Astros got Jeff Kent which caused a little known 2B named Craig Biggio to move to CF.
So when Kent left they moved Berkman back? This is such a tangent from the point of the thread. Dubon has decent speed compared to other options in the 9 spot. That's not an arguable position. That's my reasoning for not hitting him 7 or 8. That was it.
I like Paredes at the top . . . gives the opposing starter a 5-14 pitch at bat right at the start. If he's not 1, he should be 2. 1. 3rd Paredes 2. 2nd Altuve 3. DH/C Victor 4. RF Cam 5. CF Meyers 6. 1st Walker 7. C/DH Diaz 8. LF Space Cowboy 9. SS Dubon
Ideally, I would like Altuve to be batting 5th when Yordan comes back. I also like Paredes leading off right now because he draws pitches (which can effect the first inning) and Meyers 2nd. For now I'd prefer top 6 in the order Paredes Meyers Smith Altuve Walker Diaz
It's interesting because Parades is one of the more selective hitters... i still like his bat driving in runs though. I wish there was some special training and pill that could make Altuve a solid 2B again... i could still see when they have flyball starters going maybe...
