The one on Richmond around Shepherd(?) back ~20and+ years ago was very great. I think the Pappas and Fertittlas are alike (just like so many others)...you get too many locations, too many concepts, and then the quality is inevitably going to hell.
Do Schlotszsky's still exist down there? Or Papa Gallos. You could bring your own booze in back in the day.
Will also want southwestern egg rolls maybe once a quarter. Then I'll try to find something, anything else on the menu I want. Can't. Settle on some main I never end up liking. End up annoyed I essentially spent $40 for egg rolls. Need to learn Buck's discipline to just order the egg rolls. They seem very proud of the fact that they revived their business by copying McDonald's burgers... it's baffling to me. They're not even good, I got one the last time I wanted egg rolls and wish I'd just gotten a McD's burger.
I had chipotle the other day. Can still get simple chicken bowls for under 10 . A win in this new world
There's still a full size Pizza Inn on Mangum and W. 18th St. Walking in there is like stepping into a time machine that sends you back to 1989. It's almost surreal really.
I think you just miss the time. There are lots of pizza places now that are accessible and are significantly better than either of those, but the time isn't the same. Your nostalgic for the old days and assigning greater value to those things that once were.
