If my calculations are right, we may still be under the tax line, even after getting DFS and Capela, just by waving Nate Williams and Landale, and staying with 14 players. We are basically replacing Dillon Brooks by DFS, Landale by Capela, Jalen’s role last season by Amen, and Amen’s role last season by Durant. Everyone else stays. It’s big to get it with the only relevant draft capital leaving being this year’s 10th pick, who wouldn’t have any room anyway
Just going to put this totally unsourced, extremely unlikely hypothetical out there. IF there was one more total shock massive move out there this summer, and IF the Rockets were involved… IMO it would not be Giannis or Jaylen Brown (both are impossible cap-wise, and Brown isn’t even worth it). I think the most likely candidate would be Luka. Lots of Lakers organizational weirdness right now: team was just sold, LeBron unhappy, no FA signings, lost DFS, strange playoff exit Luka has one year left and never chose LA. If he wakes up and decides he’d rather be on a different team it can happen quickly I mean, DFS and Capela are extremely Luka-ish signings no? Our surprising lack of interest in acquiring ballhandlers Luka, unlike Giannis, is someone we can legally trade for this summer, he makes less money 99% chance this is nothing, but just putting it out there until Luka puts pen to paper in LA.
Would the trade be Sengun, Tari, Cam, all the picks for Luka? PG: FVV, Reed, Holiday SG: Luka, Tate SF: Amen, DFS PF: KD, Jabari, Green C: Adams, Capela
I’m going to (hopefully) assume we are done making moves and just stop to take a minute and applaud Stone for the work he has done this offseason. Every move he’s made of late has, at least on paper, been in our favor. We have depth, we have youth, we have experience, we have a legit coach, we have assets for the future, we have a championship roster. When the rebuild started all you could do was hope for the team to get lucky in the draft or FA and position ourself to be good in the future. Stone had some chips fall his way, has made some blunders but, also has made smart move after smart move to ultimately bring us to where we are currently. Most of us didn’t know what we were getting when Durrel left but, we were left in good hands.
Seeing shooters / guards gone for the amount of money we could’ve had them for, I am definitely not thrilled about Capela.
Was just thinking about this last night. Why would be Luka be happy about being in LA? I don’t think it happen either (and hey, defense wins championships) but there is nonzero probability
He’s happy because he’s handed the keys to the most rigged and loved franchise in the nba. He will be a rockstar like Ohtani, win or lose.
It’s either we gonna play more minutes with Cam and/or Reed, or that we are not done with our moves yet. If the roster stays as it is but Ime continues drying Cam and Reed on the bench, then we’re in problem - Fred, KD and Amen will play long minutes, and they’ll be exhausted once the playoffs begin. We MUST find the missing piece for our puzzle either with Cam or Reed, or via trade. We need to find our TJ McConell type of player.
With the growth of our younger players, the emergence stardom of Amen & Sengun, mixed with veteran champions, defenders, better shooters, a different focal point (Green gone) and the extension of the coach the only thing missing is time. And you telling me, we are still under the cap.
What a great off season for the Rockets, I have not been this excited for our hometown team in YEARS.......................YEARS!! All 3 local Teams are in great positions to do something special and as a fan, that's all I can ask for. Capella was on odd singing but hey, good to have you back
