Paul Pierce was 36 when BK traded for him and hadn’t averaged over 20 points in 5 years by that point Kevin Garnett was 37 and coming off averaging 15 and 8 Giannis is 30, is a top 3 player/MVP contender, and just finished averaging 30, 12, and 7 I’m not really seeing the comparison
gutting the team for Kevin Durant and Giannis feels pretty similar. Window shrunk. No depth. Assets depleted.
What rumored price? What, y’all actually believed KD who no team was making strong offers for would be worth Jalen, Jabari, and picks to acquire? Y’all believed the reports talking about “the Spurs can’t get it done without including Castle or the 2nd pick?”
Everything is conditional KD for X price versus KD for Y Price They seem to think that Miami and Pat Riley have that Boston/LA Mystique of getting what they need for practically nothing Rocket River
We didnt believe them. We believed phoenix was demanding them be included and didnt want to give that up. I was so down for what actually ended up being traded. I wasnt down for giving up the 10th pick Green and Jabari plus more
The irony of all this is that by keeping our powder relatively dry in the KD deal, we actually have a very well-balanced roster (outside of perhaps one more shot creator). I do think there's a very, very little chance that Giannis gets moved this off-season or mid-season, which means anything we're talking about regarding him is really more about NEXT off-season. That would give the Rockets an opportunity to see just how far this current roster can get us, and allow us to appropriately act next year. In a way, it's very similar to how we approached this last season. The contracts that have been dished out so far have been very responsible, and additive to not only our on-court performance, but additive in terms of how much flexibility it affords us for the future. I can't say I hate it....in fact, it's very prudent.
It's all about championships!!! We are in win now - all in mode when we traded for Durant. No one give a sh*t if you're team is a contender for 5-10 years. You think the history books will show that Utah we're a great team and contenders in the 90s? Nope, all it shows is that they lost twice in the Finals to the Bulls. You don't get a lot of chances to to contend for a title, with Durant and Giannis it gives us a strong chance of adding to our 2 championships for the next 3 years.
both of them are miles better than 36-37 year old Paul Pierce and KG, and Giannis is 30 Rockets didn’t even have a window before acquiring KD teams save assets to acquire players of Giannis caliber…or are y’all waiting for Shai, Ant, or Luka to be on the trade block
Just want to make something clear. If Giannis isn't traded this season (or at least asks out), he's not going anywhere anytime soon. This is the decision of his career. If he's willing to take a gap year, he's willing to stick around. That's why there is so much attention to the situation despite no trade demand and the Bucks not shopping him. His value will never be higher and both sides know this. There's an outside shot he sticks around and at his age 33-35, the bucks build right and get lucky with another championship like Dirk did with the Mavs at 33, but make no mistake, this all hinges on their long term plan and whether Giannis is convinced by it enough to take a gap year.
Giannis is definitely worth waiting for but I doubt he's leaving the Bucks. He does not seem to be programmed like the average NBA player and he's comfortable and cozy living in Milwaukee with his extended family with a muted and very friendly media. IMO, he wants to sign one more max extension with them and be done with it.
lowkey the main reason I’m not in love with this move is because I hate watching Giannis play basketball…he is literally unwatchable to me just running into guys all game, hideous looking jumper, and takes 11-12 free throws a game making just 60% of them winning is the ultimate goal, but I get zero enjoyment out of Giannis’s game and it would be hard to watch him 82+ times a year I hardly ever watch the Bucks unless they’re in some major series like the Nets back in 2021 or the Finals…but if it’s just some regular game that’s not against the Rockets, fck no
I think there is a good chance Giannis gets traded this off-season, and I ABSOLUTELY think he’ll be traded by next season’s trade deadline.
As much as people don’t want to admit it, Luka is over the hill. There’s a TON of miles on that body. Watch his rookie year highlights, and then his Lakers highlights from this year. He has no burst left and relies completely on craftiness to get off crazy circus shots
midrange was remarkable last year. he's still improving at age 30, just like Durant continued to improve his entire career. He's being underrated here and he was underrated by my just 2 months ago when the rumors started.
his greatness can not be denied, but his jumper is still hideous to look at and he bricks from three and from the free throw line…I don’t trust his outlier midrange shooting results there is nothing about his game I enjoy watching
So lets say Rockets trade for Giannas: Sengun+Landale+Reed (and a crap ton of picks) FVV/???/Holiday Amen/??? KD/Cam Bari/Tari/Tate Giannas/Adams/??? Bringing in DFS and NAW would make sense. Maybe Kennard somehow to round it out. FVV/???/Holiday Amen/NAW KD/DFS/Cam Bari/Tari/Tate Giannas/Adams/??? I mean... I feel like it's a conversation of how much the FO and loves Sengun and Reed vs Giannas.
If Giannis becomes available, Stone gonna offer Sengun + Suns picks + our own picks to get him for sure.
Isn’t Lillard out for the year? And Lopez on the trade market? Seems to be Giannis will be asking out of this situation
