He is a high IQ player. Reddick went with him often when closing. When you are trying to win you need players that can make the right reads and be in the right places. You need quick decision making. We see players and judge them based on how a play ends. Did they make the shot, did they get the steal? But what about making the right pass to get an open look or pressing the player correctly to force a bad shot? DFS would be like a PJ Tucker type here. Would rather have NWA but DFS is a solid pickup for any contending team. Only concern is he would be leaned on by Ime at the expense of the Cams and Reeds of the roster.
Yes - the Rockets are looking at the players they add in the context of winning and fitting what they want and need from particular players.
If you ask Lakers fans about DFS’s defense and impact on the game vs Prince (who they had a year ago), and then ask Buck fans about Prince’s impact, that would answer it. From what I’ve read, Prince is talked about as a defensive liability over the last few years, and DFS is talked about as a game changing defender, a guy who you put on the floor against the opposing teams best player with confidence (Ala PJ Tucker, Brooks, Ariza). Who is another FA that is described in these terms / who’s also a relatively decent 3PT shooter? NAW is one. Batum is still good but he’s getting very old, Melton is but he’s 6’2 and very injury prone. Bruce Brown but he struggles to shoot. If we wanted a shooter who is a defensive liability, Prince is a fine option, but there’s a number of others like Trent/Kennard/Hardaway that are better suited. If we wanted a guy who can create his own offense, we should really be looking at keeping Cam, or signing a guy like Ty Jerome or Caris LeVert
This reeks of Udoka. He only cares about defense and offense is just an after-thought. I'm prepared to be frustrated a ton during the upcoming season with the lack of ball handlers and scoring when Durant inevitably gets hurt and Fred is forced to be our best offensive player on the court.
We're really banking on having like 3 ball-handlers in our rotation. After FVV and Amen, KD is proven as a secondary creator, and then Reed is an unknown. Then you have Jabari, Tari, Sengun, Adams, DFS*, Cam (if we keep him), Tate and Jeff. Only a few from that group can be counted on to put together a few dribbles.
Dude has a shetty Plan B and no Plan C.....uuugh but I don't think Woike confirmed it yet. Plan A: Run Durant into the ground....not to sound morbid.....
If we’re indeed going to bring Dorian Finley-Smith aboard, the “DFS” acronym is already taken by “Daily Fantasy Sports” and will need to be replaced by one that’s less confusing.
As it stands now: FVV/Reed/Holiday Amen/Cam KD/Tari Smith Jr/Tate/Green Sengun/Adams If any one of Amen, KD, Tari or Smith Jr. goes down, you are relying on Cam Whitmore and/or Jaesean Tate to fill key rotation minutes. I don't think the Rockets are OK with that. DFS is a huge signing for us in that respect.
Its obvious they are looking for Dillions replacement, and whew falls right about the right time. He might be a better 3 and D guy than brooks.
if they get him at 4/40 and keep Cam, this is a big win. I think the math says they could use the TMLE fully (and avoid the tax) if they drop Jock/Cam, affording 4M annually allows the Rockets to keep Cam and atleast give him a shot to increase his value at the very least (assuming he's worth 2nd Round picks, it's not getting worse than that)
Fred | Reed | Holiday Amen | Nate Durant | DFS | Tate Jabari | Tari | Green | Roddy(2W) Sengun | Adams | Dante(2W) likely gone: Cam, Jock 40 minutes for Fred @Bobbythegreat
They would realize they traded away two guys that played more than 73 games and Durant would be lucky to play 55. And Dorian is not going to play that much either.
He knew he was coming to a young team yet he’s so impatient. The team is becoming older and slower and I don’t like it.
