Someone mentioned "longer deal." There's also the question of no state income tax, if he were a Rocket (8% state sales tax notwithstanding).
Yeah what some of those ^^^ guys said. Guards: Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, Aaron Holiday, Nate Williams Forwards: Kevin Durant, Amen Thompson, (Dorian Finney-Smith?) Jabari Smith, Tari Eason, Jae’Sean Tate, Cam Whitmore, Jeff Green Bigs: Alperen Sengun, Steven Adams, Jock Landale Can’t score, can’t shoot (85, 89, 93, 106 in 4/7 playoff games) … “we need to fix our defense.” 1.5 playable guards … “Let’s add more forwards, our deepest position.” “Dude, we acquired Kevin Durant!” … Yes, please, put the entire offense on KD and play him 38 minutes and grind him to dust. We needed MORE shooting WITH Jalen Green AND Dillon Brooks. Spoiler
DFS was a poor shooter to start his career, but he's shot 38% over the last 6 seasons so no reason to think he won't shoot well. He fits the need of 3&D wing, so I would certainly be OK with it. Offensively, the team is banking on Sengun/Amen/Reed taking steps. If those guys don't take steps, whatever supporting players we add won't matter.
Doesn’t matter if he’s ready or not. Either he finds a way to get ready or he’s out the league soon. We can’t keep hiding the 3rd pick.
After watching both the Lakers and Bucks in the playoffs, I'd much, much rather have Gary Trent than DFS. He had way more of an impact and showed he had some dog in him. That entire Lakers team including DFS looked extremely limp dick.
This would be helpful as it would allow Durant to play the 4. Durant's really good as an off ball guy fixing problems instead of being at the POA trying to prevent problems from occurring. I really like Amen as a SG as he destroyed offenses from even getting started at the POA. I do think the Rockets have 3 PFs with Cam maybe being the best SF with Amen playing SG. Rockets likely either need a SG or a SF with Amen playing other position.
The issue is mostly whether Tilman is willing to pay the tax. Cause thats what the full MLE will entail. Of course if they trade Cam in the process that could almost fit in a full MLE assuming all other contracts are minimums. Will be interesting how they go about all this
A 2 year deal with us staying under the lux tax while keeping Cam is at max a 2/20 contract. Zero chance he just turned down a 1/15 mill to sign anything close to that. And if we signed DFS, or any player expecting real minutes, it would guarantee Cam is out of the rotation until an injury occurred. If Rockets planned on giving Cam 20 mpg, there wouldn’t be reports of him being shopped, or us using our MLE.
Depends on what kind of strides he makes (if any) over the offseason. It's risky to plug him into a regular bench role, but it could work out and might be worth the risk in the end, if he develops the way they clearly hope he will. Everything I've heard is that they still have a great deal of belief in him.
Amen Thompson will be starting in the backcourt for 100% certain on this roster, especially if DFS is the MLE guy for us. Don't be surprised if he is lights out on corner threes and middies either. I honestly don't see losing Jalen as really hurting our shooting as Amen continues to improve. JG was a bit better last season, but still below average for a shooting guard, and there were so many games where he bricked everything. Going from Dillon to KD is a big upgrade to our jump shooting as well.
Our team looks like headless chicken now. The guard position is what we should address now! We are stacked in forwards.
I don't think so. Even if we fill out the roster with vet minimums, I think we'd be over the tax (but under the 1st apron).
