Hey,I have two years left of high school, but I am trying to get info on US universities since i want to study there(I'm a foreigner from south america) so if anyone can help by giving me average prices and things like that I would be very thankful. Also,if anyone is from maryland I am very interested on the UMD so that specfific info would be apreciated. ------------------ "Dont ever understimate the heart of a champion" Rudy T,1995
Well I go to the University of Houston and it cost me maybe 4 grand a year. But thats because I dont live in the dorms, nor am I an international student. For students who reside an the university and not citizens I think its about 10 grand a year. Rice is about 25-30 a year. I'm not exactly sure about some of these figures though. ------------------ MANGO - Get in my BELLAY!
Of course, it has been a few years since I've looked at this stuff (7), but: 1. I thought Rice was closer to 10 grand a year, though that might be only for Texas residents. I'm unsure. I know when I was looking, Rice was extremely cheap for the quality of education. 2. In Chicago, Northwestern and the University of Chicago (both fantastic, but U of C is the better one when it comes to academics), I believe it is over 25 grand a year now. 3. The price will depend greatly on the caliber of school you want to attend. Can you give a better idea of what level you're looking at? 4. Universities in the US are ridiculously expensive. Government-subsidized Stafford loans are available to any citizen going to college (it is, however, "a loan that has to be repaid"). It makes things difficult on foreign nationals as they have to find other ways to pay. Are you a US citizen living abroad or do you intend to come on a student visa? 5. You'll have to do your own research. Consumer Reports does an issue every year on schools. I know of several books about colleges, though I can't remember their names. There are plenty of resources like that. 6. State schools generally charge more for people who were not resident in their state because they feel their mission is to educate their own citizens. However, if you can somehow establish residency (for a year or so) first, it is probably the most cost-effective education you can get. ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Thanks a lot,but here are some other questions: -Where is Rice located? -Which university is best at economics, administration, accountance, etc? -How good academically is UH? I am not a US citizen but I could since I may be moving there in some time and some family has the visa,so if it becomes cheaper I would obviously do it. ------------------ "Dont ever understimate the heart of a champion" Rudy T,1995
