Why would he struggle to get minutes? Yes we might sign someone but his primary competition was Green, and I believe he's better than him. He's still ONLY 20 years old with 2 years of NBA experience. You have to let this ride IMO
This also might be unpopular but if Eric Gordon declines his player option would not mind having him back on a vet min deal. Shot 40% from 3 last year
Yeah teams not eager to get a guy who is supposed to be a bucket getter who couldn’t crack the rotation on a team that couldn’t score.
I like John Collins but the 2 guard spot is the only place with minutes. KD/Tari/Jabari/Amen have 3/4 under wraps. Sengun/Adams have the 5 under wraps. Amen and Cam are the only guys you can slot as a 2 guard unless you go undersized with Reed or Aaron. Sexton would slot right in and could be a legit 6MOY contender.
Yeah, the idea that Kelly Iko is making stuff up for The Athletic — or that Shams is just spitballing random names on ESPN out of speculation — is among the most laughably absurd things I've ever seen posted on this board. And yes, Kelly talks to the Rockets all the time, and he's quite good at his job. As evidenced by him being the first person this month who broke the story that A) Phoenix was lowering its asking price to the Rockets for KD, and B) that Houston would be interested if the price was low enough. It's absolutely possible to make a valid argument for keeping Cam, if you think his higher upside is worth more than the higher floor of whoever you could get for the NT-MLE (or by trade). That's a fair debate. Let's have that debate without accusing extremely qualified reporters of blatantly lying or speculating (which is lying, if they're presenting it as info) when there is zero evidence of them doing that, other than certain people here not being able to conceptually handle the idea that Rafael Stone might have a different opinion than they do. Sometimes the FO is gonna do things we disagree with. It happens.
I get Cam will be a high usage player if he pans out (i.e., difficult to get those touches unless clearly better than others), but it is entirely possible that Amen Thompson is a better player than Cam. When he moved into the starting lineup as a forward, there were no minutes for Cam as the other forwards were also better once Tari and JSJ started getting healthier. I think Cam is frustrated/feels he was doing something wrong as I think he was improving (outside a small shooting slump) when he got demoted. Cam is young. He was probably one of the Top 10 to 15 guys that couldn't legally drink last year in the NBA.
Based on Cam's lack of playing time last year and especially the glaring bench sitting he had to do during garbage time in the playoffs, I suspect that his behind the scenes antics were significantly worse than have been made public. If he is traded now, I have the confidence in Udoka and Stone, that it is justified.
If the rockets want to move him, it means he's irreparable. Think about it, they were ok with KPJ and Jalen for a long time.
Amen Thompson is a better player than Whitmore when you factor in what he brings defensively. I don’t see much debate about that. Whitmore is very young, and his timeline and the Rockets may not match up. That’s why I can understand the Rockets moving him to a rebuilding situation where that team can let Cam soak up as many minutes and shots as he wants, provided they get a rotation player they like in return. Collin Sexton for Cam and matching salaries makes a lot of sense.
I agree with other posters on this. Unless Whitmore is traded for another young guy like Grimes, Murphy or Cam Johnson I'd prefer to hold on to him and develop him, The whole reason why I loved the KD trade was that it opens up playing time for both Whitmore and Sheppard. I really want to see what we have before we move on. To this point I'm glad Rockets gave Green every chance to prove himself before they traded him. I think Whitmore deserves the same
The only reason not to keep him until the trade deadline is because he is deemed a cancer to the team. I’d like to see him stay that long because you won’t get but a few seconds for him at best right now. But you either trust Ime or you don’t.
Huh? Cam's primary competition was Amen, Brooks, Tari, and JSJ last season. This season, it is Amen, Durant, Tari, and JSJ. Amen is likely to play a lot of SG as is, but with the Double Big for 10 minutes, that leaves only about 29 mpg on average for each of Durant, Tari, and JSJ at the forwards.
that post just gave me diarrhea and a migraine that name oughta be censored on this board…u type in “Eric Gordon” and it should show up as **** ****** that dude shouldn’t be within a 2 state radius of the Rockets
Sorry, Cat, but IKO has been proven to click bait for me. And Shams did not say the Rox were shopping Cam, he SPECULATED that they COULD use Cam in a deal to upgrade - on a broadcast show. And, in the world of SOCIAL MEDIA where reporting has become sloppy as everyone tries to be "FIRST ON TWITTER" to say something stuff like this blows up and becomes a thing. I would bet money that Kelly's sources are SHAM's speculation - and that he is just spreading what others say for clicks. Reporters used to have integrity, the market has changed - too many taking risks without 2 sources these days, just to get attention. And just because Kelly talks to people all the time doesn't mean he gets any real info - nothing STONE has done has leaked since he took over, or nothing of consequence..... Stone uses the media to pitch his agenda - we no longer get investigative journalism - especially in sports. Hell that article you cited is a perfect example...it says nothing concrete - says the Rox would be interested if Suns lowered their asking price...didn't say what that price was, or what they were asking for....that would be reporting. This is a classic game of telephone where one person says something, and it gets passed on and goes from speculation to sources by the time it gets to IKO.... And for the RECORD, I used to be a sports journalist at KSAT 12 in San Antonio - covered the Spurs under Larry Brown......times have changed a lot....as has the professionalism and need for editorial proof for any story. Sources say.....is lazy reporting. DD
Colin Sexton's offensive numbers look pretty damn good. 18.4 pts, 2.7 rebs, 4.2 asts on 48% FG, 40.6 3PT%, 87% FT shooting splits. Seems pretty consistent year to year. What's the catch with him? His defense?
His defense is one weakness. However, his bigger issue is he happens to be an undersized shooting guard who doesn’t facilitate well enough to be a team’s primary point guard. He’s like an efficient Lou Williams.
