In addition to the ones Snake listed, here's a kid with pissant potential I mentioned a couple pages ago.
There weren’t any major prospects brought over this spring. I liked Sandro Pereira because he seems like a guy who will hit for average which is lacking in this system, but he’s not a guy with any pedigree. OFs Juan Sierra and Roiner Quintana are off to good statistical starts in the FCL but again neither of those guys is a major prospect. The prospect I’m most excited about from the FCL is SS German Ramirez, who is showing a good amount of improvement over last year and looked pretty good in the few ST games he got into. He was a big bonus guy a few years ago. Ethan Wagner, Luis Rives, and Anthony Huezo are the other significant prospects on that roster but they’re not flashing much so far.
Kenni Gomez is 3-3 with a two-run homer (5) and an RBI single so far for Asheville. Tyler Whitaker is also 3-3; he has two doubles, one of which drove in two.
Jancel Villarroel tripled and scored two runs in Fayetteville's 4-3 win over Augusta. Waner Luciano drove in three with a groundout and a two-run homer, his 5th of the season.
Luciano is having a great June. He’s the kind of prospect whose trajectory can turn very quickly. He was a exit velo darling 2 years ago then struggled moving up to full season ball, but if it is clicking for him he could jump up the lists fast.
I want to sneak onto the top of the football bleachers and watch a game from there. Asheville is a great town.
Germán Ramirez hit his 3rd home run of the season down in the FCL today. Anderson Arenaimo hit a grand slam in the DSL Orange's 8-4 win over the Dodgers' Bautista team. He now has two home runs this season.
Bummer. I think he's got solid potential as a reliever. Averaged about 95 when he made a few AAA appearances last year and has very good strikeout and groundball rates. Walks too many, but what minor leaguer doesn't?
Arenaimo also stole 2 bases. He's just the second Astros DSL hitter to have multiple HRs. 18 y/o catcher Luis de Leon, who is having a solid season in his pro debut is the other. Omar Damian has his best outing of the season, striking out 5 and walking 1 while giving up 1 run over 3 innings. Kevin Alvarez hit a double and a triple. Juan Fraide went 4 IP 3H 1 R/ER 1BB 2K. The most recent DSL class continues to perform well.
Raimy Rodriguez vs. Augusta: 5 IP, 4 H, unearned run, 3 BB, 5 K Rodriguez will turn in a 1.37 ERA for June.
Juan Bello vs. Bowling Green: 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 5 K He'll take a 3-4 record and a 4.27 ERA into July. Somehow, pitching in a launching pad hasn't really fazed him; he is 3-1 with a 2.77 ERA in 6 appearances (2 starts, 26 IP total). Pitching outside of said launching pad has presented some issues... he's 0-3 with a 5.74 ERA away from Asheville.
