Reaves seems like an overrated Lakers player to me. They always have these guys that Lakers fans love but they arent that good in reality. As soon as they leave LA they fall off a cliff for years then emerge somewhere as a decent role player lol
What kind of world do we live in where Austin flipping Reaves gets offered the max and he turns it down? Wow.
would it matter? He said ‘Not, today.’ One year on his increase becomes huge. Even, and particularly, with Cap and extendability. So, LAL keeps their darling.
I think the NBA community has to start finding new ways to describe these contracts because all these "max" contracts are different. KD's next max contract will be around $60M/year. Jaylen Brown's "biggest contract ever" at the time starts at $49M while the max contract that Scottie Barnes just signed starts at $39M. In this case, the "max" that the Lakers offered Reeves was $89.2/4 years so around $22M/year. All of these contracts are technically "max" by some definition but very very different things.
Austin Reaves is a guy who should avoid ever signing. He's good right now cuz he gets a favorable whistle being in LA. Once he comes to Houston he won't get any calls and then he's not even an average player. I've never seen a more mediocre player get as many free throws as him. If Jalen had his whistle we all woulda wanted him to stick around.
No thank you. Did you see him dissappear in the playoffs? Not a great defender either, would rather have Reed develop into a similar player.
He's not really a winning player. Jalen Green is a better defender than him. And he's not as good of a shooter as you probably think he is. And like someone else said, he wouldn't get the whistle he gets now if he played in Houston. We should stay far away from him.
