The results don’t help his case… and yes, that’s all that matters. I was prepared for Sousa as well (and yet if Sousa gives up the run, people would be wondering if he was the best option). But I do think Sousa will elevate as the season goes on… and ultimately be like a lefty version of Maton in terms of situational usage. The fact that he’s been selected to close games when the others have been used or unavailableshows a little bit more on the “trust” factor
He is sleeping on a pillow case stuffed with cash. If he cared he would still be in Houston. It's all about the money.
The 3 best starters in baseball over the past year (June 25, 2024-June 25, 2025) ERA 2.22 Brown (that went lower after today's gem) 2.29 Skubal 2.58 Valdez
Fun fact: Altuve has lit up Philly pitching during his career to the tune of a .321 average. He has never hit a HR however, the only team not named the Astros in which he has not homered.
Can we hire a hypnotist in the dugout to convince Jake Meyers there are no runners on base every time he comes to bat?
Hunter Brown leads the league in lowest slug pct against 1 particular pitch type: 4 Seam FB .133 That is not a typo. As a reference point, Sanchez and that killer changeup .172, 3rd best.
Valdez/Brown 23-9 All Others 25-24 Since we started this run of 31-15 over our last 46 games, Valdez/Brown starts are a phenomenal 14-2. One of those losses was a 1-0 defeat to Texas, started by Brown. We have won our last 9 Valdez starts.
Home Games: 30-13 Day Games: 18-9 Bring it on. If we're good enough to make the postseason, I won't mind us getting the midweek day game starts.
