I'd only do this if year 2 was a team option. 56M/year is way too much for a 39 year old KD. I'd rather keep him as a rental. Let's say KD gets seriously injured this year and next year, which is not unlikely considering his age, that contract is immediately one of the worst contracts, if not worst in the league. We still gotta pay Amen, Bari, Tari and later on Reed or Cam. btw the same people who want Booker next year, he's gonna get paid a 75M/year extension. Say goodbye to your salary cap.
Nobody in the NBA would have the cap space to sign him for more that 40m a year. He can’t walk and just pick up a max contract.
Yep. Wizards because of the moves they made can give him big money but he’s already said he would never want to pay for DC aka the hometown
that'd be next year i'm talking... after the 1 year rental... and as we saw with Morey, just bc u dont have space doesnt mean that u cant make the space... and then get screwed by Chris Bosh. lol
Im cautiously optimistic (based on this off-season so far) for a 1 and 1 extension at 2yrs for 100m with a player option. Hes worth every penny and some unfortunately, which makes it hard with his age. But they have had to of had some kind of agreement and i believe the reports hes willing to take less, just not a TON less. 2yr extension at 1+1 for 100m gives him reassurance of our commitment to him and the flexibility if god forbid things blow up for him to control his destiny. That would save us about 24m over 2yrs, or just about the same fred saved us with his contract negotiations.
KD has so many opportunities to make a lot more money, he chose the income tax free states as his destination choices. Rich has gotten him access to incredible opportunities w 35 Ventures and Boardroom He was able to invest pre IPO into Coinbase and Postmates which had 50X returns, along with other solid tech investments. He is around the right people, will continue to get paid by Nike post retirement. He stands to make billions after retirement with who he is around, he is around smarter people than Lebron and its not even close. I can see $10-$20M not mattering. However, since he is actually very good with money I can see him pushing for what he is worth too. He has no wife, no kids, in a tax free state with VC and PE connects that an ex wall streeter could dream of. Personally think he has the ability to make a lot more than Lebron, Shaq, or anyone else. His connects and post retirement thought process is similar to what Kobe had lined up.
I'm not sure what y'all expected? KD has had the leverage. If he were to take 2 yr / $100 mil that would be a major steal. The Rockets can certainly absorb KD for the next several seasons before things get very expensive.
We had Brooks guaranteed for the next two years. We had Jalen guaranteed for the next two years. We have Kevin f***ing Durant for the next two years at exactly the same salary! All of Jalen’s inefficient shots now go to Durant! One of the greatest shooters of all time! This is huge, guys! I became a big Brooks fan, but he wasn’t a long term solution. Someone needs to step up, and they are going to get that opportunity. We have the guys to do it, whether it’s Jabari, Tari, Sengun, whoever. I am 100% sold that Durant makes everyone better. This is a championship caliber team now! We were out this money the next two years anyway. If we give it to Durant for the third year, I think we will be happy to do so.
