I don't believe Trump was trying to create a distraction from other news. This fits the pattern of his negotiating style. He says what he wants, which is usually laughably greedy. Then he takes something away from the counter-party to put them in a worse bargaining position. Then he hammers out a deal. Israel's strike put Iran in a weak position for a nuclear deal and Trump will be able to maximize their concessions. Maybe it's smart. Like with tariffs and trade deals, I have concerns that Trump's deal making practices will have consequences that he doesn't usually face in real estate deal making. We will see these same counterparties again and again for the decades to come and they aren't going to forget their rough treatment. The best deals are ones where everyone gains, but Trump seeks to gain at others' expense. Iran might sign an onerous nuclear deal now. But what will they do to get their revenge or to find their gains? Secret nuclear development? Arms deals with other dictatorships? Terrorism? Cyber attacks? Maybe Trump's calculation that they can't be effective enough at getting back at us. But he is probably not the one who will pay the cost.

When it rains hard in Florida sometimes the outdoor theme park rides are not "operational". We just dropped who knows how many millions of dollars worth of bombs, and used our most advanced bombers to carry out this mission. Fordo better damn well not be "operational". The question though is where did they move the uranium to, and how long do we/Israel have before they can rebuild the site infrastructure that was damaged? Did we really slow them down for just a few months, or for years? What value did we get out of essentially declaring war on Iran? The issue like most things with Trump is the lying.
