I know everyone is very concerned about Fertita's finances, but Fred being paid over the MLE he could have gotten on the market doesn't really affect us. We're well below the 1st apron now which is when the actual consequences start. Also, his $25M/yr contract could be a benefit in salary matching purposes in a trade. Might sound heartless, but he is our most tradeable asset. If he made $14M/yr what player could we actually trade him for without including some of our young players?
Not really that random. The Kings currently have a gaping hole at PG. And they're not exactly a prime free agent destination (nor do they have cap space), so they'll almost certainly be trading for one.
15M for FVV is not realistic he would always make 20-25M range IMO given his championship experience, age and reputation as a leader and solid vet. If Rox lowballed him with 15M I can see him testing FA first.
1. Is this payback for the previous contract? i.e. we wisely used our extra cap space to overpay Fred and bring him in, and now that we need the cap space, he's returning the favor? 2. Don't underestimate the value of a floor general the coach trusts. The vibe between Fred and Ime is that Ime knows he has a guy on the court who will run the right plays, make the right decisions, and tell the other players what they need to be told.
Yeah but at only 2 yrs I doubt FVV is gonna be in a position to get traded. 2-3 yrs is gonna be the length of time KD is here and you want FVV for that vet presence alongside him.
Who is Naw? My dream guys are Ty Jerome or Quentin Grimes. Im good with Sengun Adams and Jock at C and our sf/wing guys.
This is a very good deal. The per year salary is a bit more than I wanted him to get(20 mil would've been preferable), but it's only for 2 years. So now Reed has the next 2 seasons to develop into Fred's replacement, and he either succeeds at doing so or the Rockets can look elsewhere if he doesn't pan out. Plus Fred comes off the books right as the extension for Amen(and maybe Cam) kicks in.
If managed correctly, yes. If Ime foolishly tries to play FVV 40 minutes a game again, that doesn't help anyone.
You remember when Stone offered Oladipo a big contract? People aren't infallible you loon, did you think you were making a point here? LMFAO some of y'all didn't go to university, and it really shows with the lack of basic reasoning.
I agree with you completely. Some people have said that because no team has cap space the most he could get on the market is the non-taxpayer MLE, which is $14M/yr. So they argue that we should have strong armed him in negotiations to accept that amount or close to it. I don't see the point in doing that. 1) We're well below the apron so the only benefit would be saving Fertita money. 2) If the money is the same, he could just leave which would suck. We'd have a hole in the PG rotation and less veteran experience on the roster. 3) At $25M/yr he is still tradeable, especially in the second year when he is an expiring contract. At $14M/yr he is extremely tradeable, but can't actually bring back a lot of salary.
Anything can happen, and if the right deal comes along this season, FVV is our one sizeable salary we can utilize besides KD or Sengun. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him moved. Do I think he's actually going to Sacramento? No. They just came to mind because they are dying for literally anyone to come play PG for them at the moment.
I'm genuinely not even flaming you. I'm just telling you to actually listen when people talk to you. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY told you this is what's going to happen, we knew because it's basic leverage/contract stuff. You don't deserve flaming, just realise that flying off full handle every 5 seconds when everybody else is telling you straight how things are is nuts. The world isn't the crazy scenarios you invent in your head, it's not about "who guesses right" sometimes it's very obvious.
