One source is reporting a 3 year extension while the other is reporting a 4 year extension. Does anyone know which one is correct?

i know in the summer when this was being talked about the people who do such things were posting quotes out of the CBA and it seemed to indicate at most we could extend him for 3 more years. as in somehow you can sign a FA for 7 years but since this wasn't the same thing it could only be up to 6 years. now i know you can sign 6 year extensions while still under contract for a year (like francis did) so that's 7 but somehow this was different.

so CBAers, is it 6 or 7, based on this summer it should be a 3 year extension for a total of 6 years and give the contract The Hungarian Rocket just posted.

as far as being hamstrung by tmac and yao's contracts, well those are the kind you want to be hamstrung by. mcgrady will be playing his prime years with us. these are the types of huge contracts that shouldn't hurt you. considering the cap will go up a little in that time, 24M won't be as bad as it is now. also, yao won't be able to get as big of a deal because the max is lower right now so we'll still have some room. not only did the lakers win with shaq and kobe taking up nearly an entire cap's worthy of money (about 42M) but they didn't even go above the luxury tax limit by that much (if at all some years) and still fielded a championship-caliber team. while yao/tmac may not be that good, we'll have a little extra money than the lakers had so it should balance out.

CNN reports the final contract as being 6 yrs/110 mil and ESPN reports 7 yrs/133 mil. The common denom is that both articles say that T-Mac will be wearing a Rocket uniform through the 2010 season. Well, counting this season, that would be 7 championships, I mean, seasons of McGrady in Houston...

They may be counting this year (1) which is the last of the non-opt out + the (3) years remaining that he could have opted out on + 3 new years.

as far as i know, and what hoopshype has listed, he has 3 years remaining on he current contract, this year and then 2 more, not 3 more.

1+3+2 would make it expire after the 09/10 season - which is what they probably were eluding to.

Man this guys is set. They should have put in a clause in the contract that says $10mil/championship he wins us. We then would be guaranteed championships for the next 7 years.

like yao lured tmac to htown, tmac and yao combo will attract many great players down the road, may even be some cheap (salary wise) ones ;) like karla and paton to lakers.
