From MSNBC: Bizarre News: TOWN HALL ISSUES SWIMMING COSTUME DECREE: Swimmers who put fashion before fitness could be asked to take their custom elsewhere after a Town Hall decree on poolside chic. Visitors to three swimming pools in the Nottingham suburb of Gedling will face scrutiny by attendants as they emerge from the changing rooms to ensure their swimwear meets new decency requirements. Anyone in a skimpy bikini, or all-too-brief trunks, will be turned away. Only costumes providing "proper coverage" will be allowed. And the modesty test does not end when the swimmer dives in. Costumes will have to come up to standard once they are wet. The policy, designed to outlaw "unhygienic, offensive and potentially dangerous" swimwear, was drawn-up by Gedling Borough Council whose previous rule banned all bikinis. Officials decided that they had to move with the times and so leafed through swimwear catalogues, poring over 70 designs before deciding which measured up. Council spokesman Stan Bown said trunks would be given just as much attention as bikinis. He said: "We had one man who wore a costume that went see-through and it wasn't a pretty sight for anyone. He just didn't care." He was eventually banned from all three of the council's pools, in Carlton, Arnold and Calverton. The new policy reads: "Not permitted are bikinis that are tie-fastened or have halter-necks, cut-off jeans, leotards, long baggy shorts, transparent costumes, underwear and thongs." Strapless bikini tops and any tops that give "inadequate" support are also banned. ------------------ Stay Cool...
