I thought about that, but that player option 3 yrs from now is tough. If they really feel good about Reed, I would just start him and let Fred walk. Thompson can be your backup pg

All I know is I don't want to pay VanVleet for 3 years, especially if Reed takes a big leap this year and next.

Felt like the wheels came off our meh offense without FVV on the floor. I also think we would be very susceptible to turnovers against aggressive defenses, especially the OKC team we are trying to chase down.

Is there another PG option out there with more size and shooting, but can still run the offense and take care of the ball? Not in FA.

How about Derrick White? Trust is a huge issue with Udoka and he knows White very well. Query what the cost would be to obtain if Boston is tearing it down or cutting payroll.

Assuming it is a future first round pick, I wonder if the Rockets would consider that price worth the upgrade from FVV to DW?

Exactly and Holiday emergency pg, or go get CP3, to teach Reed.

LOL I know, many of you will threaten to “quit watching” or “stop being fans”.

Kyrie: $43,962,963 Player Option due TODAY
Fred: $44,886,930 Team Option due JUNE 29

Amen (or Holiday or Reed) holds it down until he comes back in January.

Fred will get more than 50 mil over 3 years .

Even though he will be over 30 and is short.

Played 35 mpg on the number 2 seed and had good assist to turnover ratio.

It looks like BKN and DET will have some decent cap space. He could be a good fit in DET where they just need more NBA players next to cade . And hed have another Thompson twin to team up with on Defense.

BKN could get him just to have something .

There are other teams out there that would definitely like FVV at 20 million per year and might maneuver to sign him there.

Non tax MLE is 15 million . No way he doesn't get at least that.

Note , we "overpaid" FVV for a few different reasons , strategic on our side to have as a matching salary ... We also had to incentivize players to come to a team that had their reputation questioned and won 20 games 3 years in a row

I'm sure Harden has already been suggested

I'm sorry , I would be in favor of that . Assuming we like Reed to work his ass off on defense.

Harden with a bunch of long dudes like Tari , kd , amen . That such a tried and tested recipe for success .... Harden looked healthy this year . He may not have that extra gear , but he's so smart. He can help our young guys grow and make the game easier for them.

Of course depends on what we give up

    Harden/reed
    Amen/ cam
    Kd/tari
    Bari
    Sengun /adams

All we need to do is resign Tate

Holliday is great insurance and backup

I'd be looking to flip Jock , but maybe he contributes off the court a lot.

Curious to see what kind of depth we build out.

If they were going to decline his option this would have been done by now and agreed upon before the KD trade.

Won't be surprised at all if they pick this up and end up trading him before June 30th.

For sure if they dont decline it, they're going to use his salary in a trade. No point in paying him that much, especially with the looming apron. Jock is pretty much gone also...if he's not included in some trade.

I got a feeling Stone's going to give Fred 3 year 90mil with a team option in the 3rd.

Fred is solid, he was just asked to do too much especially when JG struggled and the team needed someone to score. But FVV can be a solid floor general as long as he doesn't think he's the best player on the team. He will definitely get 10m or more here or elsewhere.

Something is definitely in the balance, unless Kelly's reporting is accurate and the option is basically already declined.

Because the Rockets gave him a ridiculously high annual salary so he would accept a two-year contract with a team option for a third year. If they had offered VanVleet his true market value at the time, it would have required four or five years to sign him.

This will be delicate, the market for FVV is BARREN......there is no need to bid against yourself, but you don't want to super low ball him, that could cause lingering issues.

So, Stone has a delicate path here, he probably should figure out the BEST amount to give the Rockets the most flexibility and offer it as a 2 year deal etc....as a "This is what we can do" deal.

I still like this guy over Kyrie. I think he'll be more efficient here and will really open up the floor for the team. Plus he's 7 years younger

FVV is so underrated on here lol. He's still getting 25m-30m a year even if the team declines. He's a great two way PG who also knows how to lead a team. No way is Harden coming back. He's too ball dominant for a team like ours. FVV is the main reason we even went 7 with GS after JG **** the bed.

I haven't read much in this thread, but I think Fred gets resigned for 3 years and it coincides with a 2 year extension for KD.

So they are both ready to come of the books in 2028 I think. KD can retire if he wants at 40. If he's still good, then keep him if he wants to play (cheaply if we can sign our other players too). Fred might be ready to leave and be replaced by Reed or Amen. But that's only if Udoka wants Fred to go. We all know that Udoka really likes Fred.

What is Fred worth TO THIS TEAM and really TO UDOKA? It's more than a lot of posters here seem to think. Maybe it comes down to how much can we pay him and stay under whatever apron we are at. $30m a year puts him around 20th in the league for salary. I think on our team he's worth that, but I would love to get him for $20-$25. There's no way he stays for under $20.

The assist to turnover ratio. Is fool’s gold. He averaged 5.6 assists as a pg, which is bad period. Most of the best pg’s have pretty mediocre assists/to ratios. Turnovers is important to Ime, because he is a defense only coach and TO’s hurt your defense metrics. I want higher assists and TO’s be damned if we can finally play an up-tempo offense that virtually plays into our strengths and gives us a more balanced offensive/defensive unit. Old ass Chris Paul averaged 7.6 per game last year. James Harden average 8.7. Even shoot first Seth Curry averaged 6. FVV should be our back up PG a role he would excel at.
