Durant reunites with Rockets coach Ime Udoka, whom he spent time with on the Brooklyn Nets. Udoka was the head coach of the Boston Celtics and was in favor of the organization trying to acquire Durant when the organization dangled a package centered around Jaylen Brown, league sources told HoopsHype. Now, while finalizing his contract extension with the Rockets, Udoka encouraged Houston to trade for Durant, sources said. This time, Udoka got his man.

Durant will reunite with Royal Ivey, his former teammate and assistant coach, who turned down interest from the Grizzlies and Spurs for assistant coaching positions to remain in Houston alongside Udoka. Ivey also interviewed for Phoenix’s head coaching opening. Within league circles, Ivey’s decision to stay with Houston was a potential sign that Durant would ultimately end up with the Rockets.

 

I love the news that he's willing to take less and wants to retire here and win a championship here.

I think one thing KD has been looking for is a home and that kind of love a fanbase gives a player unconditionally.

OKC fans hate his guts for when he ran off to GSW and GSW fans see him as little more than a mercenary they used to prop up Steph's legacy.

BKN and PHX fans seem mostly indifferent towards him. Although I will add he seems to have enjoyed his time there and the fans remember him fondly.

If Durant wins here I think this is the one fanbase that would forever immortalize him and love him for it.

 

- Taking less money - would go a long way to respect him
- Did not like Kerr - respect him a lot for it

Ime again getting what he wants, hopefully that’s not going to play any role in negotiations around FVV new contract. I don’t want Stone to just sign him at all cost.

Oh and Durant is still 36.

 

I think we are the 3rd best team in the league. Possibly moving up to second. The only reason our odds aren't better is because OKC is a powerhouse and the west is always tough to get through.

 

Thinking seeing the 2nd apron implications in PHX last year really opened Durant”s eyes. Taking less on his final deal in hopes of allowing for flexibility would be huge.

I honestly love this trade. I may hate it when KD doesn't play more than 40 games. Right now though, I'm sad to see Brooks go, but I love the potential if this team if he stays healthy. Cam can finally earn some of that PT he wants, Tari can get more PT as a defensive stopper, and Reed can possibly get a bit more development ON the court rather than watching the court (meaning there will be lots of 6'11 players behind him to help his defensive mistakes against veteran PGs while he learns - that's true for Cam as well).

Jalen was fun to watch, but also frustrating. He had a lot of "Harden" moments where I was yelling at the tv for him to pass the ball.

I'm not sure at this point if they are finished with moves though... we shall see.

Nico probably did not orchestrate that trade on his own. The owners and league most likely involved. The end game is casinos, new stadium, and entertainment district.

 

The more I read and watch about the trade, the more I like it.
Fingers crossed, health is not the reason it fails.

 

Durant on the Rockets will result in significant increase of prime time games for the Rockets.

 

I'm actually really annoyed that we just got KD and we're repeating the City edition jersey again. Even though the Dunkstronaut is great, I don't need another one with KD's number. Hopefully we get a refresh on some of the others or something.
