It was not a bad trade but cautiously won't call it a great trade because you still would have to retool/rebuild after those Durant years.

If they get Booker then I would call it a very good haul.

And I would advice to think about it from now on.

The timeline after Durant isn't dead, it is just put on hold.......he is not a 1 year but a 2-3 year rental.

This team is deep enough that it is most certainly not an injury away from being "screwed"

Cut to 2027, when the Rockets fleece the bottom ranking Suns again for Devin Booker, for salary relief via FVV’s expiring two year extension, Steven Adams last year on a front loaded contract, the two remaining Suns picks so they can get back to drafting, and a couple swaps.

Jalen is a net negative player who's owed 106 million over the next 3 years.

You have to factor that into this trades value. Stone made a big mistake giving him that extension, but ultimately we didn't pay him a dime of it.

I honestly think getting off of Jalen at the cost of the #10 pick is a good value. Dillon + 2nds for a short term Durant is fine given the presence Smith/Eason to fill those roles in the long run.

Where this could go wrong is giving KD a full extension and being stuck with another terrible contract if he gets injured/cooked this season.

What did we functionally lose in terms of opportunity cost for post KD years? We gave up no future draft picks and only one young player who was incredibly questionable to ever be a guy we wanted to be centered around. If KD left after this season for FA we'd still functionally be in a great spot between our young talent and draft stockpile.

I hope not, but there is that probability. Durant is past his prime and he has had a history of injuries. I hope he lasts most of the next season and be playing in the playoffs. I feel like it is a 50/50 chance due to his age. I also wish Jalen and DB the best. I have come to appreciate the tenacity and doggedness of DB that has influenced the game of the youngsters in the team. Thanks, DB!

I'm just saying I wish it were Durant from 10 years ago.

I know your line of thinking.

But you will still have a young veteran team of

    Alpi
    Smith
    Tari
    Cam
    Reed

All of your 1st rd picks after KD retires which will happen in 3 years with no major injuries IMHO.

Ah yes, more youth. Exactly what this team needs!

It’s like y’all don’t even watch the games.

If KD has any gas left we could compete for a title the next 2 seasons.

Even if that doesn't work out, which is possible, we lost none of our true core long term pieces in this deal. So it doesn't really set us back or change our window long term significantly

We still have Amen,Tari, Sengun, Jabari, Reed and the future Suns picks. If one of those guys is a star, we're golden, if not we were never gonna be a real contender regardless.

This pupu platter was never gonna get a young star, if an Ant level player does comes available we still have the assets to make it happen.

From a trade perspective it was good no doubt, but fans don't understand that the GM puts himself under pressure in a time span of just 2-3 years whereas he could have just waited out and further draft younger players with star potentials.

I mean I guess I was one of the draft guys.......

It is still a weird roster where Durant and FVV puts you in as an average age team and not as a young team but most of your role players and major complimentary players are younger than young.

Exactly. Maybe our future draft picks are made and we take a star because they are high up or maybe we trade for somebody younger.

We have a very long window here. It’s just two different eras.
