I absolutely hate this trade for a geriatric player with every fiber of my being.

So short sighted and will not result in us being a championship contender. Durant will get injured or be washed up in a couple years.

Not the worst deal. Losing Brooks hurts for culture. He also shot extremely well all season outside like one 10 game stretch. But he was our dawg. We will need someone to take that role of pack leader.

Losing Green is a gamble. Durant can provide way more steady offense for at least this first year, than Green. But Green still has a decent chance of developing into an actual star. So you’re gambling those future years when Durant is long gone. I was always okay with a theoretical straight up trade between KD/Durant (if salary matching didn’t exist).

    Not concerned with losing #10.

What I am concerned with is an extension. Do we have to extend him?

Dillon only has another year left on his contract. So not sure what would have happened there given the need to pay Amen, Jabari, Tari and maybe Reed down the line. Could all of this just be for a one year stab at contention and then an immediate return to natural development of the core, sans Green?

For sure. Made me think he was too focused on the chicken and not on the game, and his playoff stats proved that

Impressive we got Durant for so cheap. I would've been mad if we gave up 2 of our youngsters, sad to see Dillon go, little bit wary that Jalen's now going to **** us up every year. I really hope Durant is as good as advertised...

I have to imagine behind the scenes, both KD's team and the Rockets front office made it clear that they're looking for him to be here at least 3 seasons(including next year).

This was always the best deal for the Rockets if they were intent on getting Durant. He's an upgrade over Jalen(aside from health and availability), Jabari and Tari(and possibly Cam) can take up all of Dillon's minutes, and the 10th pick almost seemed like an afterthought for Stone.

They hang onto the 2027 and 2029 Suns picks plus the Nets and Mavs ones and they give up none of their young core outside of Jalen. Provided KD can stay healthy and his contract doesn't prevent Stone and Fertitta from extending the rest of the core, they could contend for a long time. Once Durant is gone, the rest of the team will be experienced enough to continue competing for titles plus they can replenish the roster with those picks they've still got.

    Agreed!

After his first year of stinking it up he was going to learn from his mistakes. No?

Oh after his second year of stinking it up he was going to learn from his mistakes. No?

Oh after his third year of stinking it up he was going to learn from his mistakes. No?

Oh after his fourth year of stinking it up he was going to learn from his mistakes. Surely this time.

Some people really don't know the definition of insanity.

Just a little more thought on this:

Green is making about $10 mil too much for the next 3 years ($36 mil per). With the contract I’m not sure how much of a positive asset he was. Dillon is just a rotational player on a championship team and we have Amen, Tari and Cam Whitmore who all play his position. I didn’t really like the draft prospects available at #10; we didn’t need another rookie who wouldn’t crack the rotation. I don’t lose sleep over giving up 2nd round picks when getting a star.

This ended up being a great deal for us. We still have all the Suns picks, Brooklyn’s unprotected 2027 pick. Dallas unprotected 2029 pick, most of our own picks and all our young prospects except for Green. Now we have a top 10 scorer. This was a great trade!

We got fleeced. When old man KD, (a one year rental) breaks down physically while Green flourishes next season, let's revisit this catastrophe

I’m sure Stone maybe added the #10 and the 2nd round picks as sweeteners at the last minute. We never wanted that pick. Very well done, he really backed the suns in a corner. Now you have assets if you want to make another deal.

One thing I didn't know, and this was up until the Bane trade, that teams could make trades during the playoffs. Has it always been this way? I just can't remember any other time.

as others have said, Dillon was not part of the core, and the 2nd round picks are essentially meaningless in this era.

So the trade becomes Jalen/#10 for KD. two young assets, for a 37 y/o (former) superstar. the value is fine, but I thought Jalen grew tremendously last year, playoff performance notwithstanding, and I thought he showed an extremely positive attitude about wanting to get better, and stay here. I wonder how he will fare with a lesser coach than Ime. I for one, will miss watching him play for the rockets.

The other aspect of the trade that shouldn't be overlooked is we've traded both starting wings for an aging PF. KD, at least at this juncture, cannot guard the three. Jabari is not a 3 either, and although Amen can play the two, I see him as a more natural 3/4. maybe this opens the door for Cam, or a Reed/FVV backcourt, but the whole thing feels unbalanced.

this makes us different, but not necessarily better.

    I am, provisionally, disappoint.
