Dude put up a 7.2 WAR season in 112 games (the strike/Bagwell MVP year) as a leadoff hitting CF I can't do the math in my head, but if he'd had like 20 more hits over his career he would have retired as a dead-on .300 hitter. .299 has to be a bit annoying. He's one of my favorite "underrated players" of all-time.
Lofton Biggio Bagwell Caminiti Finley Gonzales (Short stop) - Cedeño was serviceable Catcher - Scott Servais? Still 6 out of the 9 spots would have been simply amazing. The other blunder was picking Phil Nevin over Derek Jeter, because Nevin was supposedly easier to sign… geesh. What is irritating was that the Astros needed a shortstop and Jeter was practically gift wrapped for them; but because they had drafted Phil Nevin a 3rd baseman, it eventually propelled the Caminiti and Finley trade for Derek Bell and Ricky Gutierrez. The Astros of the 90’s even with all the personnel blundered moves by the front office, were still legendary good. Unfortunately the Braves had our number in the 1990’s, and again in 2022…
Checking in on Drew Gilbert, he is struggling mightily in the minors the past 2 seasons, barely hitting above the Mendoza line. And missing a lot of time the last 2 years due to injury.
I thought Verlander is coming back. Maybe the Giants will release him or we buy him back for remainder of season. I think he could still help in the playoffs - he’s got a bit to prove
sorry yall no verlander news, but holy sh*t that lineup is video game like. Lofton was awesome. Patience is a virtue.
Astros are in dire need of innings eaters… Verlander is a workhorse. He may not be Cy young accurate good, but with all the injuries, he’d be more than welcomed back!!!!
After watching Gusto. Gordon,Walter, Alexander, and even Blubaugh pitch better than JV ( not to mention expecting Ullola) I hope and pray I never see him in an Astros uniform again. There will always be his MLB HOF induction, number retiring, and Astros HOF induction.
Verlander is not an innings eater at this point in his career. You'll be lucky if he gets you through 5 innings.
This is a thread about if we liked the Verlander trade. We gave up a prize prospect to get him. And you're saying it isn't relevant? You're a schmuck.
