Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. You gotta walk Kurtz there to set up the double play with Schuemann and Wynns coming up behind him. Kurtz is the last dangerous bat in the lineup.
here me out Jake Meyers leads off Pena batting 2nd Paredes batting 3rd Altuve 4th Diaz 5th Cam 6th Cwalk 7th Dubon 8th AAA batter in 9th Jake does well with no men on base. We all know Pena can perform at 2nd. tired of seeing Jake fail over and over and over with RiSP.
I wish hader hadn't give Kurtz anything to hit knowing 1st base was open. easier said than done i guess.
Astros did everything they could to lose that game. Gordon needed to be done after 5 - cost them a run. FTR, as a flyball pitcher with average (at best) stuff, that was a hell of a job in that environment. Top of 6th - bases loaded 1 out, don't score. Top of 9th- Pena doubles to leadoff and #2,3, and 4 hitters can't get him home. Top of 10th - start with runner on 2nd and he never even gets to 3rd. A's didn't win that game - the Astros lost it. Espada made 2 terrible calls in this game - sending Gordon back out for the 6th, ( then not pulling him after leadoff baserunner) and not walking Kurtz to setup the double play vs 2 vastly inferior hitters. Well, tomorrow's another day.
isaac and altuve combined for 0 for 7. altuve i'll him a pass because he showed up for 3 games. paredes only showed up for 1 game.
How many guys left on base Pena - runners in scoring position, groundout RBI Altuve bases loaded, nothing Yainer 1-4 Smith 0-4, walk Hitters really need to step up.
Location Lefty Pitcher Colton Gordan can't go deep into 6th -7th innings. Running out of energy. The Astros offense slows down, they want a Astros Pitcher that works fast to create momentum to get back out there batting quickly. Astros need to move up the Top Power Pitchers in A Ball to AA quickly. Location Colton Gordon 92 mph Lefty Pitchers is very tiring to watch.
I'm gonna beat the drum. They need another bat. They need to be talking to teams before prices get silly.
With the expanded playoffs and a majority of teams feeling like they are in a position to make the playoffs, prices will now be silly most years.
Gordon did a great job last night IMHO. Fielding and especially the bats let them down. Get Yordan healthy and add a bat and this will change.
It was really disappointing, but it didn't move the needle in the standings. It was one of the worst overall games of the season. Lots of critical errors as cited in other posts. However, the time zone played a factor. Our players are not accustomed to playing at "midnight." The league schedule could be smarter.
I`m not giving up on Walker as I thought he would be the missing piece in the lineup, but so far, he has been under whelming. I think we HAVE to have another bat, not knowing what Yordan will look like when he gets back we need to strike now before the best available are dealt or the price just before the deadline gets too high. Pena, Meyers, Cam have all played above there "typical" numbers and if one or more go into a slump we will be in trouble. Cam will have played more games before the All Star game then at any time in his short career and he has another half a season to play so I assume he will hit a wall and my gosh, will Jake keep this up (although, he isn't good with RISP) all year, my gut tells me no, but I hope I am 100% wrong Pitching has been great, hitters have been clutch but IMO we need one more bat
Lmao how do you not mention the fact they gave them literally six outs in the 6th? Had nothing to do with sending Gordon back out.
It’s hard to make a trade now because sellers are inclined to wait until the deadline knowing the prices will be higher and they will get better returns. Also, there are a lot of teams in limbo right now that don’t know whether they will be sellers so the market is very limited right now - the obvious sellers have a bunch of trash on their rosters. The second person that has said Cam is going to “hit a wall” - he’s 22 years old. He’s not a pitcher. Don’t understand the logic here.
