Obama misspent his political capital by trying to reach acorss the aisle to people who wanted to lynch him more than they wanted to work with him.
People who had no interest in helping the American people . . .or were more interested in making him fail than anything else

As a nature lover that disgusts me. For men like Trump money means more than anything. I remember last time that lying creep was President and said he's done more for National Parks than anybody. This belongs in my National Parks thread. Trump is doing more to destroy our parks and environment, cut funding from our National Parks, and sell pieces of our beautiful wilderness than any President I can ever remember. I image he and his supporters would call someone who did so much for our environment like Lady Bird Johnson as a woke.

But why wouldn't this piss off everyone? How is selling hundreds of millions of acres of public land in any way American first? Why would you not want your kids to go hiking and enjoy the beautiful nature instead of selling off land to corporate America for no reason?

Nothing about the MAGA movement is America first. Unfortunately its just a bunch of low iq individuals who are unable to think for themselves @SuraGotMadHops

There's nothing more pathetic than tagging me in a thread I haven't even commented in and hurling a stray insult at me. You're a legit nutjob. Welcome to my ignore list.

Labor is a marketplace. There is a balance of supply and demand. If she offers enough money, people will accept a job picking peaches. There is an easy solution to this problem. Get rid of welfare (Cash Aid, SNAP, Section 8, all of it). Then the people that were living on the dole will be desperate enough to pick peaches or be a chambermaid or whatever other job you think only immigrants are willing to do. America has made it too comfortable not to work.

Delusional. I have friends who own farms in central California and they couldn't find an American to pick crops even if they paid them 20hr. Americans are lazy and entitled and want managerial positions. This idea that migrant labor is bad is r****ded. Migrants commit 40-60% less crime than citizens. Why would we not want cheap labor as long as they follow the law and dont commit crimes ?

I love how liberterian pretend we have some vast safety net in this country. Less than .005 of individuals qualify for cash aid. The prime age employment is close to 70% and we have a unemployment near 4%. There are hardly any lazy Americans living off welfare. You're spewing garbage

They say the exact same thing about jobs like housekeeping, and yet if you go to a state without many immigrants, Americans are working all of those jobs. It turns out, if a job needs to be filled, they will find a way to fill it.

When I was in Cape May, New Jersey, every chambermaid at my hotel was American, about half were white and half black.

What would happen to the market for peaches? Americans won't work for income less than the minimum wage and even if the peach farm paid that workers would still have air-conditioned options like restaurant or retail work. Adjusting for labor costs might make peaches an unattainable luxury for most shoppers, the crops would fail, the farm would go under, and the economy would be negatively impacted. Voters would also never reward a party that eliminated the minimum wage so we're stuck.

I get I'm inserting emotion into "the market" but I don't believe any rational political actor who relies on votes to stay in office would ever support what I describe above.

FWIW I honestly don't have answer or firm opinion on this. We aren't entitled to cheap peaches and justifying their existence via what is, essentially, wage and class exploitation seems morally wrong. But we do the same thing for every other consumer good in this country. I'd buy a concerted, moral campaign to reduce consumerism on the grounds that access to cheap goods, in a country where meaningful wage growth has stagnated but costs have increased, causes human harm. But I don't think that's culturally viable to American (see: Jimmy Carter's "Malaise Speech") nor can a man who poops on a golden toilet, and sold products at the Sharper Image, convincingly make that case.
