I take no issue with a holiday celebrating the ending of slavery in the United States. I would say the more appropriate day would be the anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment (December 6th), because Juneteenth is more of a regional Texas holiday. Slavery was still legal in several states such as Maryland and Kentucky, and was still practiced at smaller scales even in the likes of New Jersey even after Juneteenth. I suspect that they decided since Texans already had Juneteenth and there wasn't already another celebration on 12/6, they decided just to roll with it.
I don't understand what the point of this thread was? Why not just say happy Juneteenth and keep it positive instead of trying repeat the same thing over and over again. You for some reason always feel the need to make everything about MAGA. There's maybe 5 MAGA posters here yet a few have a weird obsession. Why not just go to a Trump site? I'm serious
It's a shame people still don't really know the reason for the holiday, I saw one video where someone asked what it was and the response was "something about reparations" And with it being a summer holiday it's really not taught in the schools, my daughter (12/white) didn't really understand what it was for so we opened up the ole wiki page together. Anyone complaining about a holiday in this country clearly has less than pure motivation.
such an odd coincidence trump would rant about this yesterday. so weird. as always, a real mystery why the GOP and MAGA are tagged as racist. real head scratcher
it's crazy to me that the party that works so hard to identify itself as the party of Abraham Lincoln, is also the same party that largely gets upset when you try to celebrate one of Lincolns crowning achievements.
