According to MLB TALK (http://www.sportstalk.com/mlb/rumors/index.shtml) , this is what they said about Lima: "Lima-Time clocking out: According to MLBtalk Sources, the Houston Astros have Jose Lima on the trading block. With the team foundering and currently possessing the worst record in baseball, the team is apparently moving toward a youth movement. " This means losing records for the Astros for years to come. Hey, this should be cool. I predict Lima will be in the running for Cy Young next year if Astros trading history repeats itself... ------------------ Just shut up and post
I wish bad luck for the astros. I know if Lima leaves, he will become a great pitcher somewhere else. **** THE ASTROS!!!!!!!! ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
You think a Lima for Sosa deal is possible. I know we need pitching and the Cubs got no pitching. If Sosa signs an extension to stay in Houston I would do the deal. It depends on whether Drayton would be willing to sign a $$$ pitcher in the offseason. We have the position players. We need some damn pitching. A deal for Sosa would mean Alou's days are numbered in an Astros uniform. The outfield is crowded. ------------------ It's all good! [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited June 13, 2000).]
How about renaming the post Lima is RUMORED TO BE GONE? I don't think he should be traded. He's been pitching better the past few starts. Pitching in Enron will take some getting used to. This team is just snakebit. I don't think they should give up just yet though. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
I never bought into Lima Time. He had too much run support last year to get me all crazy about him. I'd trade him for Sosa in a second. And spend some money on an ace pitcher next year. ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
If Drayton wasn't willing to spend the big bucks on Hampton, what make you guys think he will spend it on an Ace pitcher this off-season? Remember, we are suppose to save up the money to sign Baggy too (Although I think it maybe in the best interest for both parties if Baggy is traded before the trading deadline.) I agree with RK95, I think Lima just needed some adjustments. I think he is good for the ballclub - he has emotion and he is "supposedly" very good with fans & kids. Sosa is not coming to Houston, because: (1) We already have too many outfielders. Alou is not going anywhere, he has a "no-trade" clause. (2) I think Sosa wants to be in a major market and a contending team. We are at Enron field now, we don't need a Sosa type of player to hit HRs. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get a player of his caliber, I just think that is not our #1 priority. Just like the Rockets don't need an Eddie Jones. It would be nice, if we can rename the topic of threads. This one was very misleading.
I'm surprised noone has suggested Bryce Drew and the trade exception for Sosa, yet... ------------------ The above opinions were expressed by the founder of the "Anti-Croshere Movement".
We signed him to a multi-year deal this past offseason, so Drayton's already given him the money. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
they really *ucked up when they traded Everett. True, true. Our hands were tied with Hampton, but the Everett trade pissed me off. As for too many outfielders, I'd do RKMAN's trade in a second. Drayton needs to stop being such a stingy b*stard and open his freakin' wallet. ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
To me, the only reason the Everett trade sucked is because he may have been a pretty good team leader. While he's playing awesome in Boston, Hidalgo's numbers aren't too shabby (since we didn't have him for the majority of last year). Also, if they knew that the Mets would have taken on DB, then I'm positive they wouldn't have traded Carl. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
I'm not too pissed about the Everett deal cause we got some young outfielders - Cedeno, Hidalgo, and Berkman - ready to play. Hampton didn't show any loyalty to the Astros by saying he wanted to test the free agent market. Drayton probably would have made him a deal. Drayton better go after a $$$ pitcher this offseason. The guy has Enron Field, what more does he want? There was an article I think last week someone posted here that said Sosa was interested in Houston, SF, and Arizona as well as the two NY's. Even though it is highly unlikely with Boston and NY's in the race, remember Randy Johnson? Who thought we would have Randy? We gave up alot for him (young pitchers) and we lost on the gamble. Now I say lets get Sosa if we can. Everyone in the NL Central is making blockbuster deals like Edmonds in STL and Griffey in CIN. We gotta do the samething. Like I said we have the position players, let's get a superstar like Sosa and some damn pitching and we will be fine. ------------------ It's all good!
Is Sosa the leader that the Astros have been looking for? Sosa demands respect which he hasn't been getting with the Cubs. He will shake things up in Houston for sure. ------------------ It's all good!
I say we trade GH and Drayton. Those two putz' have screwed up this organization royally over the past year. I understand trading Hampton because everyone knew he didn't want to be here, but they really *ucked up when they traded Everett. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
