I voted no, but I'd do it for Fred and filler. None of the kids, none of the picks. I like Fred, but I'd be excited to see Ime forced to develop the young PGs-in-waiting. As for Durant's impact, I see it taking the Rockets from a flukey 2nd seed to a legit 2-4 seed. I could see them competing for the West crown (but not winning it).
Think about this: what has KD on every single team besides the one where he rode coattails of champs?….exactly, noticing. He’s never been able to stand out, he scores, he defends a bit and now he’s 37 and injury prone. Give em Brooks because he’s all bark and no bite is fine, Green too soft fine, but besides that no thanks. Even Green is 50/50 for me.
Only for Jalen and Jock and the #10 pick any other trade would be stupid and even then I would prefer a trade for someone younger in our window.
Green is an easy dump for me, wouldn't even hesitate. Franchise will be better off the second they move on from the dream of Jalen the star. Jabari and Durants extension price would scare me, but I would probably still do it. The Rockets lack of go to perimeter scoring is just too glaring right now. With an even competent lead scorer, this team would have been in the conference finals at least. With possible improvement from Amen, Sengun and other young players I do believe a title is a realistic hope in the next 2 seasons.
At a reasonable price, I want Durant here. (I don’t have an issue with Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and #10 for him). I like Jabari, but he would be locked into a bench role with KD on the team, and I don’t know that I want to extend him long term. Durant addresses the Rockets major needs (shooting, a true number one offensive option, late-game closer) and will be surrounded by a lot of strong defenders on a team with a defensive identity. He can help the young guys learn how to win series in the playoffs the next couple of years.
None of Jabari, Tari, Reed, or Jalen should be in any deal for Durant. And, no more than the 2025 pick. I'm afraid we're going to overpay though. KD might be worth #10 + filler, but no more. Tossing Jalen in there would be ridiculous.
The more I sift through the cap situation the more I realize how precarious trading for Durant is… He fits well, has some viable juice left, in an area that we desperately need. But boy the value proposition is questionable. You basically open the window for one year and right away have a high chance of being forced to retool, whether or not the outcome is positive next year. Leaning heavily toward no. Let alone trading a stupid amount of asset to get him.
U trade for kd, basically going all in while banking that at 37 hes not gonna get hit with any major injuries. Thats risky as fk especially if u give up a sht ton of picks and players for him. Kd isnt the piece that will take us over the hump for the ring, gotta b patient.
I really only want KD if we can ditch Brooks in the deal. Dumping Jalen would be nice, but dumping Brooks would be better.
Are we going to be championship favorites if we sign him? If not, then what’s the point. Hold onto the assets and make a better move.
You know whats flawed about the #2 seed? 2 losses and they're in the 5 hole. Their seeding meant more than it did to the older vet led team.
That simple. There is no plan by any team to be contenders 5 yrs from now. Just as i stated about Giannis, be a contender and your 2 best young players Sengun, Thompson and hopefully Shepperd progress and become all star level or all nba caliber players.
