I'm fine with giving up Jalen Green, because A) he's had adequate chances to prove himself on big stages and the results speak for themselves; B) His jump shot mechanics are not pure and this will lead to inconsistency over time; and C) His mental makeup is not the alpha dog leader that a championship team needs. Not saying he's not intelligent, but I am saying he's not a leader of men. Jalen's offensive production is replaceable -- and his defense is easily upgraded.
I just want to see Jalen without Fred bogging it down. I'm not incredibly confident it will work in his favor but it's just something I'd like to see for an extended period. I don't think Fred's style is conducive to helping others look better personally and don't really understand the organization's infatuation with him. I know he has experience and brings leadership but the fact that they delayed his option date and never had any real intentions to use him in a trade is so puzzling to me. I won't be heart broken if the organization moves on from any one player in the right scenario personally (although Amen is close to that level for me) but what's confusing is not just using FVV and picks to make a much cleaner trade. Jalen will likely take the addition of Tari or Jabari and Brooks and the organization tried to put out (via Iko) that they didn't want Booker because Jalen would turn it around. Feels like the Rockets should just go all in and do separate trades for KD and Booker (they are a second apron team and cannot aggregate salaries) while keeping Amen and Sengun and making everyone else and every other pick available.
Shams is saying the Spurs are pretty much out as they want to use their assets to trade for a star more on their timeline. That is exactly my thinking. Other stars WILL become availiable, and if we're sitting here with less assets because we chased a 37 year old star, that's the risk we take. If after next season Antman is asking out we're going to look dumb as hell trading away 2-3 assets for Durant when we could have instead given those players to Minny? Jaren Jackson might be someone Memphis trades if they choose to go full rebuild, Garland, who knows who might pop up. Jalen and that's it. That's the best they get.
I mostly want to agree with you brother. I just think there’s some caveats. Firstly, is one opportunity in the playoffs really an ample amount of opportunity and secondly, I think his jumpshot mechanics have at least improved. I still have him making a few All-Star games in his career, but I don’t expect him to emerge as the next SGA or even Jalen Williams. All of that being said, I would love to take one more year of seeing how he does and then go into the playoffs with him as the third or fourth option.
Is Jalen Green even a top 50 player? Top 60? y’all can’t tell me if this was Jalen Green on the Pistons, Jalen Green on the Magic, Jalen Green on some other team, etc with the same exact career averages and caliber of play that he’s exhibited to date that y’all wouldn’t be calling him an inefficient chucker and bum laughing at that team for paying him 35 mil/yr we even got a thread on here asking who’s better between Jalen Green and Desmond Bane this same KD in place of Jalen and it would’ve been us playing OKC in the WCF
that breaking news: Kevin Durant gets traded to the Miami Heat gonna hurt. and when we fail to score in the halfcourt next playoffs and lose in the first orund while KD averages 27 on an efficient 55% from the field, you guys will repeat the process of convincing yourselves that we don't need outside help.
seeing Jalen with an actual pass first PG who doesn't take 15 seconds to set up a play that goes nowhere would be fun. Jalen would benefit a lot from playing with Melo, Haliburton types. Hornets culture is just awful though and I think Jalen has shown enough(despite what people may think) to be on a winning team and be a positive contributor, don't want to see him be set back by a trade.
we do have a 22 game sample size of Jalen Green playing in games without FVV this season his averages were 19, 5, and 4 with 3 turnovers on 41% from the field, 36% from deep, and 52% TS…basically no difference from how he usually plays guys seem to play better with Jalen off the floor, and the team does better as well Jalen on the court: +2.8 net rating Jalen off the court: +9.4 net rating no one else getting meaningful minutes on the team had a discrepancy anywhere close to this
There's a ton of evidence corroborating what you say, but there's also a ton of evidence suggesting that i'm incredibly stubborn and do not know the definition of insanity. I don't think he's going to be a superstar but i do think his value is in the gutter right now and if he starts hot could get some of it back. I personally want Booker added to Sengun and Amen somehow. I think he's the perfect scoring option next to Amen and I do think the fit with Sengun is seamless.
Durant will have a say and where he goes. If he doesn’t want to go to Toronto, he won’t. The reality of it is that these front offices are accountable to how they treat the players. I don’t like it, but it’s the game the agents play.
question becomes, what random star is going to get traded next while the media focuses on the Durant saga.
