I am going on record in this thread as saying I do not care if the killer is a Republican or a Democrat. What happened is truly awful and this person obviously had very blurred lines of fantasy and reality. I do not know why for some it is so important to pin this on one side or the other. I am exposed to news everyday either on TV or in here. Never wanted to kill anyone as a result. Some folks are just crazy
I care only to the extent that it is being used for pure political "points". For example, it was a popular talking point with my very conservative friends that the shooter had to be a democrat because he shot the two democrats that recently voted with Republicans on a bill - and that it was an example of a small group of liberals controlling the agenda in the USA. Well - anything was possible, but this was a real stretch and we now know he had over 20 democratic lawmakers on his list and was also targeting abortion clinics. It was someone that was to the right - as to be expected and they should take some degree of responsibility or at least acknowledge that they have some unhinged supporters. Having said that - from a macro level I completely agree with you - just the sheer fact that there is so much violence directed at public officials and politicians is concerning and shows how back the division is in the USA and a lot of that is a result of the consumption of media that is extreme for the right and the left. This SHOULD concerns people that care about the USA and a healthy country.

These are scary times to be in the public eye. Not just politicians. I would be uber nervous to be someone like Taylor Swift or Angel Reece or Catlin Clark. Polarizing figures often in the news and the hate is strong towards them. I do not want to be the old dude yelling at clouds (I'm 57), but I think Americans have become so desensitized to violence and murder. Is it video games with scores ending in body counts? Is it because we have been exposed to so much that it becomes white noise? Is it because our cell phones are our only constant nowadays? Is it that some people are just batshit crazy?
