Here is what an expert says about how the budget cuts will affect hurricane forecasting going forward for the dim bulbs in this thread.

Perfect example of how funding cuts won't make hurricane forecasting more efficient. It makes absolutely no sense to make forecasting hurricanes and tropical storms harder to do. They are the most expensive natural disasters in this country, and there is zero chance that we won't have anyone affected by their destruction every year.

This doesn't only affect those on land. It puts mariners more at risk as well. Saving a buck over saving a life is a sad way to think about making things better. It's harder to get the hell out of Dodge at the last minute when the forecasts give people a false sense of security, and change rapidly. That's more prone to happen with less experienced meteorologists and when less updated storm measurements are taken.

It's all good. The Commerce Secretary testified in Congress today and said under oath that NWS is fully staffed. Nothing to worry about here.

(Which is why they are rushing through an emergency hire of 120 meteorologists to be stationed primarily in hurricane offices.)

Not sure why Republicans are scared of getting taxed or about gun control. We are all going to die anyway ;).

Reminds me of Dan Patrick saying....

“No one reached out to me and said, ‘as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?’” Patrick said. “And if that’s the exchange, I’m all in.”

Screw the weak, let's celebrate Trump's birthday with a huge army anniversary parade. What's 50 million, and another 15 million in street repairs when you can parade for your leader like Dictators do?

    ---Heil Trump.

The poor, disabled, and their children should all sacrifice their lives for our economy.

I don't think FEMA has received many complaints about how much assistance they provide

The President said today that this will essentially be the last hurricane season with FEMA doing stuff before it all falls on the states.

Well, the state services and programs of Florida, Texas, and Louisiana will have to be drastically cut to cover the costs for hurricane support, cleanup, aid, and reimbursement, that's for sure. Where will those billions come from?

I took some liberties at the top to make it a more Trumpian type of post.

What we are seeing are basic managerial principles being put into action in order to make improvements. ... of course the Democrats are incapable of spotting it.

FEMA needs to be held accountable for years of incompetence and the recent politicization of the agency by the Democrats. There needed to be a shakeup. To keep the status quo was totally unacceptable. They haven't earned that through performance. One of the great things about Trump/Musk is introducing accountability into government officials. Something that didn't exist at all under Biden. The end game is to emerge with a better product and service for the American people.

Cutting inefficient government agencies helps reduce the budget deficit, which brings down inflation... which helps the working class. The working class spend a disproportionate amount of their income on goods and services impacted by inflation. Inflation actually helps billionaires because they are the owners of real assets -- investments that do well in inflationary periods. There has not been a better President than Trump for helping the working class. Trump is the inflation buster -- there was another good inflation print today as a matter of fact.

Yes, inefficient government agencies, like the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. You know, those free-spenders with their $844,000 emergency fund who investigate chemical disasters.

Not surprisingly, most of their work involves the petrochemical industry and occurs in states like Texas and Louisiana.

The current Presidential budget proposal zeros-out this profligate operation that just stands in the way of progress. On average, hard working Americans can expect a fraction of a penny returned to them--as well as increased cancer rates and plant explosions. Win-win.
