Optimistic? Pessimistic? Denialist? I don't know what I am right now. I hate seeing people and their homes destroyed despite having a firm understanding that violence is the supreme authority.

An earthquake was detected near the underground nuclear base that was unharmed, so Iran may have a nuclear weapon now. Or Israel destroyed the reactor.

That ain't happening. Its almost impossible to invade Iran due to the terrain, you can't get the logistics over the mountains, its been proven throughout history, thats why the Ottomans never took 'em over. They even built their defensive positions/tunnels while the Iraqi war was going on, just in case it got to them. It'll be worse than Vietnam n the US needs to avoid it at all cost.

    And the Arabs.
    And the Greeks.
    Even the Turks.

The British did it in 6 days in 1941.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Soviet_invasion_of_Iran

The invasion, code name Operation Countenance, was largely unopposed by the numerically and technologically outmatched Iranian forces. The multi-pronged coordinated invasion took place along Iran's borders with the Kingdom of Iraq, Azerbaijan SSR, and Turkmen SSR, with fighting beginning on 25 August and ending on 31 August when the Iranian government, under the rule of Reza Shah Pahlavi, formally agreed to surrender, having already agreed to a ceasefire on 30 August.

Listen to those screams. No one should have to experience this.

But imagine this everyday for ~20 months with minimal access to electricity, internet, food, water and other supplies all in an even more confined area

Prayers to the people in Israel and Iran caught in this mess. I can’t imagine living in fear like that.

It's absolutely terrifying. This is going to sound absolutely selfish, but I think these clips are more terrifying to me because Tel Aviv looks like a typical US city, with high rises and sky scrapers. The clips have such high audio and video quality that I can totally picture missiles raining down like this in any US city if the US gets into a war.

I think this also shows that expecting a defense system to hold up in a war and shield the city is an exercise in futility. It's just not possible. You can catch a high percentage of incoming missiles but eventually it'll get overwhelmed. Even if you stop the missiles, drones have shown to be highly effective as well.

I hope this conflict doesn't push the US to throw trillions of dollars into 'Golden Dome'. It'll just push other countries to build more and more capability to overwhelm the system. It'll be a never ending escalation. Those trillions of dollars would be much better spent elsewhere.

Trump is on his way to reinforce Israel. This war is going to be a disaster.

No other US POTUS would've greenlight the war that Israel is on.

Always refreshing to read Americans discuss world politics, about places they have little to no idea about

Ahahaha "Here will be new countries" - problem solved :D Gold old British / American ingeniuty at play.

Gus is right. There's a reason Turkish / Iranian land border is set at 1639 - nearly 400 years ago and unchanged since. Its not only a military thing as well - Iran has one of the oldest continuous cultures in the region - comparing it to hill tribes of Iraq / Afghanistan is like comparing New York Knicks to Charlotte Bobcats. You cannot invade it - even if you do there's 0 percent chance you can hold it. Also 30 / 40% of Iran is Turkic, which will open another box of Pandora's, not one filled with jewellery.

For the record: I am not in support of or proposing a Balkanization of Iran. But this is what the great powers do post war. (Plan for Ottoman Turkey via Treaty of Sevres, Break up of Austria Hungary, Break up of the Levant and creation Israel, Splitting Germany, Loss of actual Prussia to USSR, etc).
