Israel is the Uncle Tony doing all the dirty work to keep up our standard of living and safety

Preventing 9/11 and lunatics driving through crowds from happening on a regular basis

Providing intel so we don't fall on the backfoot

They've disemboweled the Houthi's , Hamas , Syria and are now liberating Iran because they were stockpiling nuclear weapons

Every Iranian in the US is ecstatic at the ideology of death and oppression being targeted and the potential for a civilian uprising

I'm glad this is one issue dems and republicans agree with.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: To the proud people of Iran, We are in the midst of one of the greatest military operations in history, Operation Rising Lion.

The Islamic regime, which has oppressed you for almost 50 years threatens to destroy our country, the State of Israel. The objective of Israel's operation is to thwart the Islamic regime's nuclear and ballistic missile threat to us.

As we achieve our objective we are also clearing the path for you to achieve your freedom.

In the past 24 hours, we have taken out top military commanders, senior nuclear scientists, the Islamic regime's most significant enrichment facility and a large portion of its ballistic missile arsenal. More is on the way. The regime does not know what hit them, or what will hit them. It has never been weaker.

This is your opportunity to stand up and let your voices be heard.

Iran is reeling from Israel's unprecedented attack - and it is only the start

    Curbing Iran's nuclear programme

Israel, and several Western countries, suspect that Iran has been secretly working towards what is called "breakout capability", meaning the point of no return in developing a viable nuclear weapon.

This week the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), found Iran to be in breach of its non-proliferation obligations and threatened to refer it to the UN Security Council.

Many of the concerns over Iran's nuclear programme arise from its stockpiling of highly enriched uranium (HEU) that has been enriched up to 60 per cent, far beyond the level needed to generate civil nuclear power and a relatively short hop to the level needed to start building a bomb.

    ...

Whatever the final damage amounts to from Israel's Operation Rising Lion, if Iran's regime survives – and it has defied the odds before – then there is a risk it will now accelerate its race towards building and even testing a nuclear bomb.

If that happens then it will almost inevitably trigger a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and possibly Egypt all deciding they need one too.

    ----

Israel is 100% in the right here. They've done the Western world a solid, even though many in the West won't acknowledge it because they want to appease radical Islamists.

The video you mentioned likely shows celebrations of Iran's missile response later that day, not Israel's actions, based on timing and broader reports.

Actually, it was misinformation and a video from a celebration before Israel attacked. There's quite a bit of misinfo on both sides atm. Unfortunately, Can't delete the post

The Crown Prince is ready for a democratic takeover of Iran

But I don't know if the people have the courage -- beaten down and subjugated for 5 decades, all the talent and those with fighting spirit have left long ago. Every Iranian outside Iran desperately wants the regime to change and a shift away from radical Islam, but in the end it's up to the citizens living in Iran. There won't be a ground operation from Israel or the US.

The end of the Islamic Republic is the end of its 46-year war against the Iranian nation. The regime’s apparatus of repression is falling apart. All it takes now is a nationwide uprising to put an end to this nightmare once and for all. Now is the time to rise; the time to reclaim Iran. Let us all come forward—from Bandar Abbas to Bandar Anzali, from Shiraz to Isfahan, from Tabriz to Zahedan, from Mashhad to Ahvaz, from Shahr-e Kord to Kermanshah—and bring about the end of this regime.

Do not fear the day after the fall of the Islamic Republic. Iran will not descend into civil war or instability. We have a plan for Iran’s future and its flourishing. We are prepared for the first hundred days after the fall, for the transitional period, and for the establishment of a national and democratic government—by the Iranian people and for the Iranian people.

To the military, law enforcement, security forces, and state employees—many of whom have been sending me messages in recent days—I say: Do not stand against the Iranian people for the sake of a regime whose fall has begun and is inevitable. Do not sacrifice yourselves for a decaying regime. By standing with the people, you can save your lives. Play a historic role in the transition from the Islamic Republic, and take part in building the future of Iran.

I can't help but think that, before Israel, we had no enemies in the Middle East."

Iran does not need a puppet. Monarchists are worse than Islamists.

Iran needs to have separation of religion and state, or at least at a minimum drop state religion, and be vigilant about curbing corruption and promote social liberalism. Turkey post Ottomans is the formula that should work. Or France post Napoleon III.

But Iran definitely is not without blame for its current circumstances. Iran wanted its cake and eat it too by having the capability of making a nuclear weapon while also not having to actively maintain one. They want to exert their influence to the historical borders of Greater Iran and that leads to conflict with Turkey, Israel, Arabs, Afghans, Russians, Pakistanis, Indians, and the US. You can’t become a great power without making enemies, and those enemies will conspire to ensure you remain a non power.

I agree - but I suspect the odds favor a puppet government if the current government falls.

The US, China and Saudis all will strongly try to influence who would take over.

    This is VERY debatable.

Every culture is different and every culture has different needs from their government. I don't know that a majority of Iranians would want an entirely secular government - at least not in the way secular government exists in the West. I think that really the key is more freedoms and perhaps push empathy and the importance of individuality.

Ehh - maybe, there are some serious cultural differences and Turkey wouldn't be Turkey without years of Ottoman rule.

Iran is the balance to Saudi Arabia in the Middle East and the region has split largely between these two. Iran isn't so powerful if Iraq and Hussein are still in power. US and UK involvement in the region has been a disaster for 100 years.

If we're going to have a war with someone I'd prefer to fight it ourselves rather than farm it out and filter everything through another sovereign like Israel.

If Israel disappearing means the US will in-turn take all the heat and aggression they've been dealing with, I say fine, bring it on.

Better we take responsibility and end the conflict directly rather than let a shitstorm bubble and brew forever.

I was about to ask if that was the universal consensus on who this person is given the time they joined and their pet subjects.
