He was only a bench player as a technicality in order for the coach to keep a promise to a terrible player he said would start, Sheppard logged the 3rd most minutes on the team.

When you jerk a rookie, or young player on general, in and out of the game and only give them 3 minutes on the court at a time before pulling them again, it's going to do more harm than good.

When you give young players a little bit of leeway, they get comfortable on the court much more quickly.

Yup fairly soon down the line people are going to want to come to Houston to play with Sheppard. The guy is going to make players better around him.

Shepp needed the year to get his bearings and begin to get an NBA shape. There might actually be another stretch where is three point shots as he gets stronger and his body calibrates.

that being said, you see enough intelligent plays from him to know that the floor with this guy is pretty high.

To me if you want improvement, go to Euroleague or Australian League.

G League Basketball is really Flawed.

While Reed was timid as hell at the beginning of the regular season, he was clearly used differently in the SL and in the regular season. In the SL, he controlled the ball and initiated the offense. In the NBA, he was relegated to the far corner. In the 3 games he started as the PG in the second half of the season, he played like the SL Reed.

He will show the world he is on another level and ready to break out

And then completely vanish Jabari-Smith style

The last couple of 2nd year Rockets to SHOW THE WORLD that they had taken THE LEAP in summer league were

    Cam Whitmore
    Jabari Smith Jr
    Josh Christopher
    Usman Garuba

RIP Reed Sheppard career should've drafted Stevie Castle

Lol, summer league is a bunch of random g leaguers and undrafted FAs and rookies - the bulk of whom won't even play in the NBA next year - thrown together with < week of practice on makeshift teams run by random assistants.

Really the perfect place to expect structure & set plays and get real angry

Jabari is a lot better than most people give credit for, Ime spit the bit on him post injury.

Absolutely correct. I think Ime screwed Jabari worse than any player on the team. Letting Reed sit for a year was reasonable and most of us predicted it. In hindsight, that was probably an error as well.

No, Ime screwed Reed, Cam and Jabari, which are 3 of our best 3pt shooters, ironically....

Either Ime embraces 3pt shooters like Indiana and OKC has or he has to go.

It’s certainly not the end of the world, but generally-speaking, it’s been my observation that any non-rookie participating in The Summer League often doesn’t translate well to being a key regular season contributor
