Well... one positive is that way less Iranian drones will be killing Ukrainians.

if Dems had some brains and a spine, they’d sweep the midterms and 2028 would be a blowout

unnecessary foreign wars and economic collapse is basically a repeat of Bush’s 2nd term…not to mention the outright fascism and blatant corruption that is going on

if they were aggressive and projected strength, had good messaging, and had a strong vision and plan for the future, they should be doing FDR numbers in 2028

once again Israel commits acts of violence towards another nation, and try to paint it as "self-defense" or "survival".

Idk why we have so many posters and americans supporting this nonsense.
The nation that cries as it strikes others, and we have gullible idiots believing this nonsense.

Pretty sure the government will try to avoid full scale war with Iran. The American people are not for it, especially after the Iraqi war turned out to be a complete waste/nonsense

I don't ever come to D&D. I feel very dirty after hanging here for any amount of time. But I had to make a single statement. I feel really bad for the "regular" people of Iran. Children, families, hard-working people who are trying to scratch out a living. These will be the people most affected by this situation. They already live in a dumpster fire of a country. Attacking will only make things worse (regardless of who attacks who). Every single Iranian I've met throughout my life has been an absolute fantastic human being. And I'm pretty sure their country is full of the same types of people. It's really sad that this nonsense has to go on due to the governments of so many different countries. F war and violence.

It feels futile to issue hot takes on this less than 24 hours into the conflict, but my initial thoughts are:
    • It would be great for the world if Iran is stopped from obaining a nuclear weapon. They are the main culprit in regional instability and Israel's war against Hezbollah, combined with the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria, greatly diminished Iran's influence. If Iran acquired working nuclear weapons it would set off an India/Pakistan-style arms race between them, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. That is a recipe for utter disaster.

    • Iran's leadership, much like the current Israeli government, is not motivated by rational political goals. When you believe that God is on your side there cannot be true negotiation or compromise. It would undermine your divine mandate. Therefore, I shed no tears for the Iranian government being weakened because their hostility toward Israel and the west isn't grounded in reality. This, by the way, is why I'm extremely skeptical of Israel's war in Gaza and settlements in the West Bank. But, those are separate issues outside of Iran.

    • I do not think Trump wants to get us involved in a regional war with Iran. A consistent thread in the man's behavior, going all the way back to the Iraq War, is that he shrinks from military combat. He doesn't admire it or understand it. While I don't think his reluctance comes from a peaceful nature grounded in morality, it does mean that he will work to avoid war. Maybe the bone spurs will save us after all.

    • Trump cannot allow Netanyahu to play him here and have the tail (Israel) wag the dog (USA). Bibi cares about Bibi and if that means insulating himself in a cabinet full of religious weirdos to stay in power he will do what they want to remain PM. Trump's base has a lot of religious weirdos, including our current ambassador in Jerusalem, who believe in unquestioning loyalty to Israel so that Jesus can return to earth. Trump will be pulled between the evangelical base and the "America-first" base on this issue.

Excellent comment. The people of Iran have born the brunt of their own leadership's zealotry for decades. Hopefully this, plus the lingering impact of sanctions, opens a door for domestic regime change.

Look around in this thread...these are the same people that were responsible thousands of troops...and HUNDREDS of thousands of civillians dying in iraq, not to mention the debt and decline in prosperity we are experiencing.

The people are stupid ****ing monsters. They are too far gone to see their own hubris.

Pretty crazy that Iran, as confirmed by the IAEA and even warhawks like Tulsi Gabbard, has no nuclear weapons, allowed routine inspections of their nuclear sites and participated in treaties such as the NPT & JCPOA and people still say stuff like "they're the cause of instability" and "they're not willing to negotiate".

Meanwhile the zionist state has an estimated 400 nukes (which were developed using uranium they stole from the United States), refuses to allow inspections or participate in treaties such as the NPT and has threatened the use of the 'Samson option' which outlines their plan to essentially nuke the entire world should they get invaded and people are like "pray for israel, they're just a smol bean ;("

I guess I was more focused on his domestic stances. I was for Israel being a bulwark in the ME but they've turned the knob to 111 and gone straight genocidal fascist warmonger state.

It's a damn shame how that can change a person. I saw it with my father-in-law during his Alzheimer's decline. Sad.
