It has been reported that Reed Sheppard will be playing in the Summer League. The Coach and other players have not yet been named. Reed should take this opportunity to control the game as the PG and show Ime that he is the PG of the future.
I was at summer league last yr and had so much fun watching Reed. Then the excitement faded as he struggled with his regular season minutes. It was such a tough swing, it kind of ruined my taste for summer league…and I’ve been going since before it got popular . Reed ruined summer league for me…well, Reed and the overpriced tickets and all around circus it’s now become . Hope he does well, but I’m of the opinion that you can’t read anything into summer league.
Cam should be there as well. Assuming Jack McVeigh and the new guy as well. Reed/Coward/Cam/McVeigh isnt a bad SL squad. Specifically want to see Reed break down guys without needing a ball screen and playing less gambly defense. Not even sure what to expect from Cam at this point. 2 years in I dont know what his offense is supposed to be.
Rockets SL team needs some talent and more structure. It was pathetic last year. My guess is Reed plays the first two games only.
Supposedly the Rockets are high on Reed. He must have some good practices or something. I have not seen much. hope I am wrong on him
I'm sure they haven't given up on him or anything, but they have no reason to say anything other than they're high on him. I hope he gets more of a shot to sink or swim this year, and I hope he plays like he does in Summer League, G League, and in those starts he had at the end of the year.
I hope Reed will control the game like a true court general and quit bringing the ball up only to give it up and run to the corner. He should initiate the fast break which he has shown to be really good at in the few minutes he was allowed to play during the season and then direct traffic when in the half court. He should initiate the play, organize the offense, and shoot when he is open. This is the time for him to stop deferring to his teammates, but to take the game in his hands.
He'll play the 1st 2 games, score 50 each, and then sit out. Reed is already proven that he's ready to be part of the core. Just Ime has to figure out where to fit him.
Weird how Reed's strength role in college was playing off the bench, figuring that's transferrable. But it's total OPPOSITE as a pro. The bigger starting role & longer minutes he gets, he's much better. And shaky when playing spot minutes. Not so concerned with Reed as a main player oddly. Its his effectiveness in spot minutes while FVV still figures on the team. What was encouraging end of last season was Reed was playing better in spot minutes too.
