Pass.... Again, we're talking a 1-3 years of Durant. Not worth giving up a huge collection of future assets.
(all this math is assuming the #10 pick ends up on the roster). I did the math in another thread - the Rockets have ~$41.46m between them and the tax line (assuming that's the line in the sand) if they decline FVV's option. They also have 3 other roster spots to fill - Adams, Jeff Green & Tate. Who do they keep and if they don't, who do they replace them with and at what cost? The vet min for next year is $2,296,274 Adams made $12.6 last year Jeff Green $8m Tate $7.565m What's left of after filling those 3 spots is what they can pay FVV and stay out of the tax (again, assuming that's important).
Sacramento subsequent to Halliburton is a good example of not reading too much into the current moment. They thought they had a young core between Fox and Sabonis and Murray when they finished 3rd in the West in 23 and had their "Light the Beam" renaissance. Instead that was a mirage- they just were healthy that season and teh rest of the west was pretty down. Instead of having a young core taht you had to be patient with, it turned out they didn't have all that much. Sabonis as the undersized 5 who can't shoot and has to be covered on defense is a floor raiser but also a ceiling limiter on an unmovable big contract - sound familiar? Now they are expensive and stuck. You can say the same for Memphis to an extent. People need to get over the idea that patience is a virtue in the era of the Aprons or that "losing him for nothing " is bad. "Lose for nothing" is going to be seen as superior option to attaching picks and assets to get rid of 1st/2nd Apron busting contracts. IMO the Aprons are going to cause contention windows to open and close even faster than they did before. The celtics are a good example of this. They looked like they had a dynasty but it's going to be extremely expensive/unlikely for them to keep their title team together past July.
That 28 pick is a mess. I think Brooklyn still has first crack at it, and Phoenix only gets it if it is the worse pick of 3 teams and better than the Washington pick. So... Washington owns 26 & 30 Rockets own 25, 27, & 29. Utah owns 31 Brooklyn 28
Giving up anything more than Cam, Dillion, and 10th pick is insane for a 37 year old KD on a 1 year deal.
Sacramento traded Haliburton for Sabonis, Hali was 21 years old and Fox was 24. The Kings traded long term patience for short term results and now are a treadmill team recently. That may change possibly but the organization has a poor record over decades imo. Everyone has a right to thier own opinion but that was impatient to give up on a 21 year old with star potential, as we're seeing in this playoff run and Indy in the finals. Haliburton has saved them many times. In this second apron era, talented young players on rookie contracts for depth are even more valuable. They are tied up for at least four years and you can make decisions as time passes and they develop. So it does pay to be patient with a 22 year old successful core. As far as taking on bad contracts like Durant I agree. The Suns went all in and are the definition of impatience, 'the team needs to fix it now' panic approach. $150 million in salary in Durant, Beal and Booker and they got swept in the first round and missed the playoffs last year. They had made the finals with a young core and Paul years before, started trading for other players due to impatience and now are in arguably one of the worst situations in the league. Folks can have different opinions and agree to disagree, but that would be a a cautionary tale imo. Even other fan bases have been saying and hoping we do trades like this so there is one less threat in the west. Young players typically get better as we've seen the past two seasons.
Do not give up Cam, we haven't seen the best of him and he is 20, we know what Jalen isn't....trade Jalen Green he is not a dude. KD would be our best player even at 38 - we need a best player.....our core is a joke, it is a mirage -they are not going to magically become a great player - the chances are none of them will be. Sitting tight is mediocrity treadmill stuff. Trade out expensive chaff and keep going until you have a true core...... Jalen is not worth his contract, and he is in the way of potentially better players....same for FVV......and Brooks.....trade any of them and picks for Durant. DD
I would trade Jalen, Jabari, brooks and maybe two picks. I’m not trading cam or Sheppard. The fact that suns want cam instead of Jalen is very telling…
It's not unreasonable to not want to gamble on a player that has had a couple of bad injuries in the past few years. Sure, he was relatively healthy last year, but he is turning 37 and he wants an extension. I know Jalen did not light the world on fire but there are still some that believe we need to be patient and I don't fault them for that. Don't be so shocked that some would rather take the gamble with Green. Durant does not make us an instant contender, so don't be so shocked homie. I'm on the fence personally. Call me a fool, but I am alright with that.
1. Including Jabari? Gross. 2. You have no idea that the Suns want Cam over Jalen. This is all internet nonsense speculation. So there’s nothing telling about it.
You literally started a thread proclaiming Amen to be “the Dude” and now you’re calling our core a mirage and a joke and saying none of them are great. Absolutely ridiculous. How do you take yourself seriously?
If you replace Green and Tate at the minimum (and that might still be Green and Tate, but more likely lesser players), that’s $36.86M left. Re-sign Adams at his current salary of $12.6M and that is $24.26M left to sign FVV. If you sign him for $20M, that would leave $4.26M in flexibility to make trades while still taking on additional salary without going into the tax. There is just not a rational case to be made for signing FVV to anything over $20M as things currently stand.
"Kevin Durant and the guy embezzling Kevin Durant's money are currently sorting through trade options"
1. Jabari is a role player. We need stars, not role players. 2. Nobody wants Jalen. 3. We have no core, it’s just Amen, that’s it.
nah, if its going to be a bidding war I don't think it's worth it. One of our prospects + Brooks + Pick Trading away Jalen AND Jabari is insane or like 3 prospects...nah. I'm interested in adding Durant to OUR core.
An extension for KD would be what? 2 years at most due to the over-38 rule? It’s basically 3 years of KD vs 3 years of Jalen Green. Filet mignon vs a lunchable or TV dinner. What is the gamble with Green? That he somehow morphs into an elite player? That he becomes a top tier scorer? People are still holding on to that hope? If KD isn’t making us an instant contender, he’s still addressing many of our needs and making us significantly better while not costing everything leaving us with many assets left over to try and get to true contender status. We wouldn’t be adding KD, and then that’s it, that’s our team moving forward with no moves left to make. Y’all can’t tell me this team wouldn’t have been in the WCF this year if Jalen was replaced with KD. I wouldn’t do Jalen + Jabari and multiple picks for KD, but if it’s Jalen + fodder like Cam Whitmore and a pick, then I’m driving all that to the airport like
For some perspective, Here's an Arizona forum where Phoenix fans were excited about trading thier youth and mortgaging their future for KD. Give it a read, what were fans saying back then?
