With Dezenzo out there isn't another great option. 1. You could put Diaz there but he has sucked too 2. You could put Whitcomb there, but it's pretty obvious they don't want Whitcomb playing the field much We can win the West doing what we are doing, but if we are going to make some real noise this year Diaz and Walker are going to have to come around
Yeah...Dezenzo and Gordon seems like a more likely ask. Just out of curiosity...what do you think O'Hearn is going to net in a return? Seems like you are overvaluing what the Orioles are going to get back.
Any complaints about Altuve batting 3rd are a little strange to me In 74 at bats since he was moved to 3rd, Altuve is hitting .324 with an .877 OPS, we kind of need him in there
I just think other teams in contention have more to offer in terms of prospects. Elias is a prospect hoarder.
Lmao my point is they aren't going to be offering prospects better than a Dezenzo type either. Look at what Arozarena was traded for last season and he wasn't even a rental.
Yes and no. While Technically they have not exceeded rookie eligibility yet, they are major leaguers. Simply being major leaguers raises them above the level of middling, as the majority of "middling prospects" will never make it. On my opinion, they cease to be "middling" when they make the show. However, they certainly aren't top prospects or projected to be stars. But as a rental, corner bat, O'Hearn does not have enough value to bring back a projected starters (even one). My point was the Orioles should be more interested in young MLB players than true prospects who are yet to make MLB because they need to compete next year for Elias to keep his job. If you think they do not belong in MLB, then that is reasonable due to their limited success and national evaluations, but Gordon has shown he can be a BOR, with 4 consecutive starts of 5+ innings and an expected ERA in the 75th percentile, at 3.17 Whitcomb has good defensive versatility, shown very good power in AAA, and unlike guys like Loperfido, has a K rate of under 20% in a small sample size, giving him potential to be a solid MLB bench bat. They could both be positive, but bottom of the roster producers for the Orioles for the next 6 seasons. A good return for a rental, platoon heavy corner bat. But I admit other teams could outbid the Astros. It just depends on what players Elias likes.
Lmao (whatever). My point is we aren’t the only team that will be interested and we also won’t be the team with the best offer.
Yes. We all know what and who these players are. No need to run down their strengths and weaknesses for me. I would call them “middling” as they probably won’t ever be everyday solid major leaguers. A “middling” prospect doesn’t just mean he hasn’t played for the big club yet. At least not in my mind. Also, you were still calling Chas a “prospect” in his 4th year, after he already had a huge season for us.
Guarantee we weren't the only team interested in Kikuchi last year either...your point makes zero sense
We weren’t competing that hard for Kikuchi as we would be for O’hearn. Remember, Kikuchi was pretty bad last season before he joined the Astros.
I could definitely see Chas being part of the offer because he isn’t a free agent next year. I also don’t think Chas has the trade value that he had in early 2024.
All of the advanced metrics showed Kikuchi was much better than his actual stats suggested. Competent starting pitchers generally carry a higher price at the deadline than a platoon bat. I don't think O'Hearn will cost more than Kikuchi. It's clear we disagree on what O'Hearn is worth. Like @IdStrosfan said, they might like some other lotto ticket over ours or a different fringe MLB starter over Gordon. Hell we might not even be interested in O'Hearn. Saying we "can't afford him" just isn't accurate IMO but we can agree to disagree.
Truthfully I'd take him if I was the Orioles (in addition to other players) and run him out there the rest of the season. It's a better chance he becomes helpful to them than some lotto prospect that probably never reaches the majors...
I wonder if the orioles will trade for Whitley? Fast was in the group that drafted him, their pitching sucks and they are retooling for next year. It would make sense that they might take a flier.
I'm fine hitting Altuve 3rd, I'm not fine with him playing every day. He needs a little time off, too, once or twice a week. Even if he's currently producing well, I worry he'll wear down by end of season.
There’s almost zero chance Whitley will be traded by the Astros in July. He has been DFA which means he will be claimed/traded by next week or will have been outrighted which means no team wanted him even for free.
