A true visionary. Brian Wilson heard The Beatles' "Rubber Soul" and wondered how they could ever compete with the greatness of that album. So he made "Pet Sounds" The Beatles heard "Pet Sounds" and wondered how they could compete with the greatness of that album. So they made "Sgt. Peppers". Music was definitely changed by Wilsons work.
He might be my favorite musical artist of all time. The catalogue is practically endless. I think Pet Sounds is the best album ever created, EVER. Like a lot of other people, for a long time my only exposure to the Beach Boys was the early surfing and cars hits. Once I discovered the depth that goes far beyond all of that, it was like Dorothy opening the door into a colorized world, the immersion that followed into all things Brian Wilson was the most influential musical awakening I've ever had. I'm glad I got to see him perform live in Houston a few times over the last 15 years or so. He was there but you could tell not fully connected. It was more like Brian Wilson tribute concerts with him sitting on stage, and I was ok with that.
Gut punch. The word gets passed around far too often, but Brian Wilson was a ****ing genius musically. Absolutely one of the greatest the world has ever known. Mike Love is an idiotic clown, but the things Brian Wilson did are magical. He was a complicated dude.
I can’t believe he lasted as long as he did considering all the drugs and issues he had. He was a genius. Surprised that no has mentioned that Sly Stone died the other day - another musician that I would never think that would live past 60.
I have always loved the Beatles but never listed to this band. I did watch the documentary a year ago on the band and really enjoyed it. I need to give Pet Sounds a few goes I guess. Rip
Yes, yes you do. Listened to on your finest stereo or headphone equipments. I'm not sure what the best remastered version of it would be...there's several to choose from Sloop John B is a classic that blends the old Beach Boys with the new, this gets played every time I'm on a boat just for ***** and giggles eta: if you want to get geek about all things about it, read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Sounds as a primer.
I’m honestly shocked he was still around. He went harder than most for a long time. Making it to 82 was a real feat. I guess good vibes and beach life was good for him. RIP.
I was a fan. The early Beach Boys were inspirational for sure. I wasn't part of that period but they made the times better back then. I enjoy watching their classic songs on video and I checked out their live performances on TV on occassion. I think I held a slight grudge for a period because he beat out Neil Peart for a Grammy. lol
Ok, I'll tell yall my "Good Vibriations" story that none of yall want to hear, but here it is: 2004, Christmas, my gf and me are in a borrowed [do not ask what the make model was] car, driving from Częstochowa to Sopot/Gdansk up on the coast. Of course we get stopped by the road police, the gf and the cop proceed to jibberjabber for what seemed like 5 minutes and then she paid him the "fine" right there on the road. No ticket. So we roll on....and the first song that comes on after that on Polish Radio is...wait, this intro sounds familiar...what? No, it can't be... It's Good Vibrations. Have you ever rocked down a Polish highway in the middle of the night, with all the windows down, jamming Good Vibrations? Of course you haven't. We may be the only 2 people to experience this.
No, but I drove all over Norway's fjords in 2013 and Rihanna's "Diamonds" was played every other song.
