which team are you talking about? PHX went to the finals, lost in the finals and sent their team to hell. A one hit wonder that couldnt even get it done. Its similar to Morey right, 0 patience GMs who keep gambling and failing. Harden era best accomplishment in near a decade was losing in the conference finals. Once. OKC went back to being patient and collected lotto picks in Chet and JDub. Thats the correct approach. They didnt trade for Booker or AD or whoever like what you wanna do now. Our best players are in their early 20s anybody we trade for should be in the same age range. Giannis is 30 he is too old our window would be too short.
How many old guys did they spend money on once they knew it was over? Did they sign and give all nba type money to a guy like FVV? Or sign 38 yr old Jeff Green? What about 22m to Dillon Brooks when you have 2 guys you drafted that plays that position and needs to develop? I don't recall them doing any of that.
Phoenix went to he'll because they traded all the players who helped them get to the finals, fired the coach too. Again, the 35 yr old Chris Paul help lead a team that lost the play in to the finals whom yall are trying to say is to old at 30 who just finished 3rd in the mvp. Make that make sense
He lost patience cuz he didnt build around Blake Griffin and Jordan who were the same age. Once they knew BG was good they suddenly tried to make the team a contender by making win now moves including getting Cp3. 6 yrs is a short time if you got a rookie you drafted. By that standard Cade would be done 2 yrs from now is that a long time to you?
So you think PHX making the finals once was worth all the rebuild years from Nash era to their state now? Cp3 is like steroids ok he helped the team short term but ****ed them long term. You happy with one finals appearance I want more than that.
I am not as old, I was a kid and didn't know what trades were and thought superstars were forever to stay. Even the casuals know that Giannis is one of the most difficult to build around. But I can envision that Giannis and Amen would be extra special provided they can keep Amen. And Antetokounmpo is more like David Robinson than Dream to be honest.
Cade was an all star and all nba this past year. Do you see any all nba on the Rockets right now? What year is this for Green again?
If Amen started all year at his natural position he would have a chance. He did make 1st team all defense, but of course defense doesn’t matter with most fans.
Cade only became an all star this year. So you think Cade 2 yrs from now is washed? 6 years is a short time. Cade will only be 25 in 2 yrs and you think thats long already? lol Even if Cade is an all nba talent if you have a short window for him that talent is wasted. Imagine if Pistons saddled Cade with old guys that will be washed when he is 25 will he achieve anything in his career? Doubt it.
We will never be on the OKC timeline because we don't have SGA or anywhere close to that. There's really nothing to be patient about. You need a star to win in this league, not sure how we getting that by just waiting. Our core of Sengun and Amen are good, but they are still quite far from a top 5 MVP level player and they might never get there. Jalen and Jabari are role players at best. Reed and Cam are so far behind they don't even get minutes
SGA wasnt seen as an mvp player when he was 23. In fact Shai became an all star at age 24 so technically Sengun is ahead of him in the timeline. If Presti thought the same as you they would never have the potential dynasty they have now. Theyd have traded future picks for old stars and they have no capspace to get guys like Hartenstein and Caruso.
I think the strategy should be to find that up and coming star before he’s a star, like OKC did with SGA and like Indy did with Hali. Who does the front office have conviction on? Tre Murphy? Jaden Ivey? Austin Reeves? One of the draft prospects not named Flag or Harper? If we have conviction about a player go out and get him.
They traded for CP3 in 2011, Griffin 1st yr after missing his rookie year. They played together for 6 yrs. CP3 was in his 7th season in 2011-2012. They were the team until GSW hired Kerr. In reference to Detroit, they have their all nba and like the Rockets, they also have a very, very young team aside from signing Tobias. The difference is Cade is that dude when healthy. Ivey is as good if not better than Green. Duren, Asur, Sasser, Walker, they got some going talented player also.
How about Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun? You are thinking it from the perspective of OKC and Indy. What about the perspective of Clippers and Kings? They are the teams who traded away stars before they became stars. We want to be OKC and Indy, not Clippers and Kings. The players we have might be the ones that will turn into stars. I think a lot of people kind of write off Sengun being that guy because of his poor shooting in the past season. I still see the star potential in him. Two things need to be fixed. First his shooting. That is hard to predict. Some players do and some players never. Think of a guy like Evan Mobley. I had pretty much written him off as a decent shooter in his first three seasons. Now he has shown that I was wrong. Sengun can surprise people like that. The second thing that needs to be fixed is coaching. Sengun can be used more creatively on offense, especially with his passing ability. They need to find ways to punish teams that clog the interior by using more movement so that he can hit the open man when they double him down low.
I think both Sengun and Amen are going to be stars. I think Sengun’s stardom is going to be more closely linked to being able to hit 3’s at a decent clip and Amen will be a star if he only gets a mid game like CP3. If he develops a 3, he will be an MVP candidate.
why not keep swinging though? Amen is our franchise guy; im sure he makes all nba at some point. But he’s not our #1 scoring option; there’s a good chance he’s never going to be the #1 scoring option. Sengun is a great #2/#3 scoring option. If he learns to shoot the mid range he’s a great #2. If he learns to shoot the 3ball he’s a #1. But right now it’s hard to project him to that level. so I say keep swinging. Keep Amen and Sengun, but keep swinging. Make a consolidation trade, but keep swinging. If we find that #1 shooting option we are golden. It might be someone in the draft or it might be one of those guys I mentioned, or someone else I didn’t, but keep swinging.
I mentioned Amen and Sengun because they were the most obvious ones. There might be sleepers among our young guys apart from those two. Who is to say Bari and Tari won't take a big leap in their 4th season? How about Cam and Reed? Even Jalen might turn into a numero uno someday. We don't think these guys are likely to become stars. And I agree. But well, if you can snatch a guy the other team doesn't think likely to become #1... My point is, it goes both ways. Consolidation trade implies sending out young players we don't think have star potential. That's the kind of situations when the SGAs and Halis happened.
