Hey all, I'm a pretty avid gardener everything from watermelon to cucumbers. This year I added an 8 foot by 4-foot, 3 foot tall, raised bed for things the rabbits used to eat like Beets and carrots. What I'm most excited about is NY State has made growing weed legal. I purchased 6 clones to grow. 3 sour Diesel and 3 blue dream. I have a green thumb but have never attempted to grow the ganga. The plants are doing quite well so far, and the plants were guaranteed to be female so that is good. The reason I am posting is to get some advice from anyone who has grown this crop. Although I have looked online, I'm still puzzled on when to harvest for peak performance. Some of the articles seem to want me to get a handheld microscope to inspect the terpenes before harvesting. And once they are harvested, they should be placed in mason jars to dry opening often to let gasses release. Seems like a lot considering this stuff grew wild in the days of the native Americans. If any of you have any tried-and-true methods of the proper time to harvest and the drying methods, I would appreciate any advice. My plants are about 4 feet tall at the moment, and I have been trimming the "show" Leafs.. I hope this post does not violate the posting terms on the board. I realize this crop is illegal in Texas but is quite legal up here. I threw this disclaimer on here because you can't even spell marajjuana on this board without the dreaded asterisks
I have never tried growing it, but I am pretty good at buying it I am just jealous that y'all can even do this....................gosh dang it were so ass backwards in Texas on these types of things
Believe it or not. As progressive as NY is they were anti weed for a long time. But then they saw all of the money going next door to Massachusetts. same with gambling. there are weed stores a plenty up here but there is a 20% sin tax placed on them unless you have a medical card. You can have 6 plants per adult per household. So I figured what the heck im good at growing other things, but this seems very technical. I can tell when a tomato is ripe but the ganga not so much. I hope to be an expert this time next year. lol
Word on The Street is that having a basement, with hydroponics, timers and grow lights are helpful Do they still publish High Times? High Times use to advertise books for hime growers. Weed is a weed so it should grow without a lot of work on your part. To get peak weed, you will need a professional setup.
I’m picturing a slightly wilted head of lettuce with long hair and unkempt pubes, sitting on a beat up couch, leaning slightly to the side while lecturing me about the beauty of the asymmetry of flowers.
Went through a couple of grows when I lived in CA. From my experience the lights and a consistent schedule of water and fertilizer/nutrients makes the biggest difference. What kind of lights are you using?
I have a nice dry basement, which I understand is good for "hang drying". My issue is that is where the laundry gets done. Don't want to smell like Spicoli rolling into work. I don't know if I want to invest in a professional set up yet for 6 plants. Any more grown I think would be overkill.
If you're going for the best grow possible then outdoor is questionable. I'd be concerned with them getting enough light (16-18 hours a day). This might be why they're growing tall. They're stretching up for the light. Getting good temperature (constant low/mid 70s) and humidity levels (50-60%) would be a concern as well. Then there are bugs/pests to worry about with outdoor also. At least they'll get adequate CO2 being outside. For a first or experimental grow outside is fine but if you want optimal conditions indoor is best.
Thank for the info. I did a few things to help. They are far away from tomatoes and cucumbers, my minimal research said keep away from plants that are predisposed to fungi. My grow bed is nice combo of compost and high nitrogen growing soil. They are planted in the open with direct sunlight from about 7AM to 7PM, but it has been raining here a bunch lately. That is the risk of growing outdoors. Also the temp has been steadily mid 70's for the last two weeks.
Ill echo what others have said; indoor with controlled lighting and humidity is the best way to go. I had a friend who claimed to grow the best weed said just an hour difference in lighting makes a big difference. If you're proud of your green thumb, outdoor will be a good challenge for you.
When I was growing peppers, most of the best information for indoor growing was from mar1juana forums. We used to laugh but when you think about it, a lot of those guys were selling the stuff, so they invest time and effort into it. A lot of the information there could also be applied to pepper plants. You may want to check some of those forums out. A lot of it is probably more than you want to get involved in doing, but there's some really good knowledge there. They take you through the many ways to do outdoor, indoor, specific fertilization routines, sunlight, different strains, etc. I can't remember the names of all the ones I kept getting hits on, but a couple I believe were rollitup.com and THCFarmer.com.
I know you love the peppers, but are you really growing crazy hot peppers hydroponically in your basement?
