The only person open to taking the NY gig should be someone currently unemployed, otherwise the risk makes no sense. They fired a guy who got them into the post season 4 of 5 years, and deeper into the playoffs than anyone in 25 years. It is Championship or bust for the Knicks, you can smell the desperation, and I would not put it past them if they do what the Suns have done and fire their coach every year for several years. There are rumors the players are upset Rick Brunson has that much control over the team, the environment seems toxic. Wes has a ton of influence there too, likely what got Thibs fired is him benching KAT. Ime would not even be free to play who he wants there without fear of being fired. He has a lot more freedom here, the press is under the team's control, the window to succeed is significantly larger than what the Knicks have. There is a good chance the Knicks regress next season and they will be big story all season now that the expectations are sky high. Imagine not having say over the minutes KAT and Brunson play because of Wes and Rick b****ing.
Of course that trash organization trying to get their greasy, cannoli stained fingers on other teams coaches.
In the NBA, coaches cannot be "traded" in the same way players are. The NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs trades, and it explicitly applies to player contracts, not coaching contracts. Coaches are team employees, and their contracts are handled separately from player transactions. However, teams can negotiate arrangements involving coaches, though these are rare and not formally considered trades. For example: A coach under contract with one team can be released or have their contract bought out, allowing them to join another team. In some cases, teams have negotiated compensation (e.g., draft picks or cash) to release a coach from their contract so they can join another team. A notable example is when the Los Angeles Clippers sent a first-round draft pick to the Boston Celtics in 2013 to secure Doc Rivers, who was still under contract with Boston. Such arrangements are uncommon and typically involve high-profile coaches. The process is more akin to a contractual negotiation than a traditional player trade, as coaches aren't subject to the same trade rules, salary cap considerations, or trade deadlines. If a coach is a free agent (not under contract), they can sign with any team without restrictions. If you want specifics on a particular coach or situation, let me know!
A little off subject, but the Knicks could be players for Giannis if they are as disheartened with their squad as reported.
That Doc deal was exactly what I was thinking of. But didn’t realize it wasn’t actually a trade. It was often described that way on ESPN and such.
I regret not saving the graph, but the Knicks and Rockets were among the worst in off-ball movement. He's not fixing them.
Well, Ime being stubborn and having GM like power is also not healthy. Only 1 team can win this, the others are under pressure.
Knicks apparently want a veteran coach who is also going to open up the offense - may need to look inwards at former Knicks coaching legends like Don Nelson and Mike Of Anthony
Still can't believe Doc Rivers was named a top 15 coach of all-time... I still don't think he's a top 15 active coach either
There was a trade - that's how the draft pick went from LA to Boston. It's just the coach wasn't technically being traded - his release from Boston and agreement for LA to pick up his remaining contract terms were just a condition of the compensation package.
Biggest what if of this generation is if Kerr took the Knicks job that Phil Jackson offered over Warriors job when Mark Jackson got fired.
Add more Shooters. Self Improvement is also a Huge Need. Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Tari Eason really need a Huge Leap in Improved Shooting. Jalen Green, Jabari Smith ball handling, add muscle weight, strength and leaping need to improve. Jalen Green - 4 feet and in around the basket, mostly it is muscle strength getting pushed, hacked around the rim. Need to add muscle. Reed Sheppard needs to improve in everything. Sports Psychologist is a need on the Rockets. Jalen Green, Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore really need it.
Chris Finch would have been an excellent hire. Supposedly they have sent feelers out for Nick Nurse. The Knicks leaking their interest in select coaches under contract in the hope it spurs mutual interest. Count down until Udoka gets an extension.
