Hector Salas went 3-4 with 3 RBI down in the FCL. Two of those came on his first home run of the season.
7 of the 9 players in the AAA lineup tonight are scrap heap guys released by other teams. Brice Matthews and Kenedy Corona are the only actual prospects. Brutal.
Yes those 5 guys plus Leon are all missing so it’s not a big deal, mostly just a shame that the AA roster was so weak it wasn’t ready to backfill.
Another guy I think he comps well to (potentially) is Reggie Sanders, due to build and power/speed potential. If at least 2 of Cam, Melton, and Matthews pan out- that would do wonders for the next 5 years of this team’s outlook.
FCL squad is up 9-3 on the Cardinals behind a pair of three-run homers from Anthony Huezo and Luis Rives.
Trey Dombroski @ Wichita: 6 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K Zach Cole hit his 4th home run of the season as the Hooks cruised to an 11-0 win.
Manfred must have caught him gambling. He'll be back after a few years playing minor league basketball.
The Astros have added another pitcher. Nate Wohlgemuth was purchased from an independent league team. The 24 year old made his organizational debut by striking out all 6 batters he faced this morning in the FCL. He started his college career at Arkansas but only pitched in 3 games. He spent a year at San Jacinto where he tallied 6.1 innings before finishing his college career with 2 years at Rogers State in OK. He seems to have largely struggled with control, and went undrafted after an 11.54 ERA his senior year. He has pitched pretty well in independent ball, taking over the closer role for the Evansville otters and striking out 9 batters to 3 walks in 8 innings. His track record is sporadic and uneven, but he seems to have been fairly highly regarded out of high school, and can apparently hit 97 on his fastball.
The Ks are mildly concerning for a guy whose hit tool is supposed to be his calling card. The steals and consistent playing time in CF might indicate that his athleticism is underrated. He apparently has a really good arm.
Yeah since he signed, his speed and defense have raised his value while his swing and miss has lowered it; true to his scouting report, he’s not hitting for much power. I am pretty hopeful that because he’s only 19 he can start to make better contact. They can afford to be patient with him.
I wish we got to play more of our AAA road games closer to sea-level, instead of in the launching pads of the Mountain Time Zone Maybe I'm wrong and it's a more equitable split than I realize
