I say trade him regardless of where we are in the standings. Get a good player and 2 big prospects NOW
No but I would extend him. 5 yrs 150-160 mil. A workhorse to pair with Brown assures the Stros will be contenders.
He's more than capable of winning any pitching duel in the playoffs, so if we are a playoff team, even if we don't look like it right now, he's serviceable. We are not at the top of the mountain though, nor is he, and we are borderline playoffs & sliding as a franchise. The franchise didn't really intend a full rebuild, but poor choices have us headed in that direction.
If there is a Yordan Alvarez, Yainer Diaz, Cam Smith Prospect. It is just too late. Astros have chemistry now and are in rhythm, peaking at the right time. I just don't think it is a Good Idea because it will hurt the Team Morale and players will get angry at Ownership and GM. Look at Seattle for example, trading away players and not paying them, Cal Raleigh was angry at the GM.
I trust the Astros to do what is best for the long term success of the club. Springer, Correa, Bregman were all offered reasonable deals, that they turned down. I think the Astros make an offer they can afford and Framber will probably turn it down. Next man up.
Off topic here but I was just curious. With the Kyle Tucker trade could the Astros have gotten PCA and a lower prospect instead of Paredes and Cam?
Yes 2 seasons of pitchers dropping like flies and inconsistent results, lets trade the guy who has been a rock. The success of the Tucker trade has made fans delusional. Framber was never getting that return, and he certainly isn't now with 40% of the season done.
Of course there’s a price at which I would support trading any player. But realistically, no I would not trade Framber this season with the Astros currently in first place in their division. Houston would need to be sitting several games back in both the WC and division in mid-July before I would start shopping Framber (and in that scenario I would also be shopping Abreu, Hader, Meyers, Caratini, and others).
He's getting a contract over $200m. This is above the Astros budget and why they haven't approached his representatives about an extension. He's gone this offseason. But, no I wouldn't trade him even for a good player and high potential prospects.
To be honest I would trade my mother if the price was right. But to trade Framber we would need more than prospects. We would need a controllable Left hand hitting all-star. I was big on trading Tucker a year before he was actually traded, knowing full well he would take the money after this season. Framber seems to like getting peanuts from Julia and seems like the clubhouse clown. I never am as naive to think he will give a hometown discount, but if offers are in the same neighborhood as the Astros, I can see him staying put.
I also think it’s important to note that Houston is on track to get a 2nd round pick as compensation when Framber signs elsewhere. That pick will be a prospect who would likely immediately slot into the 6-12 range on Houston’s prospect list (so a player like Joseph Sullivan, Ethan Pecko, Kevin Alvarez, Ryan Forcucci, Luis Baez, AJ Blubaugh, or Chase Jaworsky). So you’d have to subtract that value from whatever return Houston got if they traded Framber. In light of how devastating it would be to clubhouse moral and Houston’s 2025 odds, it just doesn’t make sense to trade Framber unless they fall out of contention.
I would do it for A. Painter, J. Crawford, and Tijuan Walker from Philadelphia. Would throw in Chas too.
