If I'm Stone I'm working the phones with Charlotte, Utah and Washington and trying to get a deal for them to take Green and his contract for the rights to select Tre Johnson. If they're willing to do a straight up swap and we can keep #10, even better. I'm then taking one of the bigs on the board.

I'd be psyched about a future of:

    Reed Sheppard
    Tre Johnson
    Amen Thompson
    Tari Eason
    Alperen Sengun

Who is he compared to Jamal Crawford? 6th Man. He doesn't play defense. RGV Vipers the whole season.

Elite shooter and can create his own shot. On the other hand he doesn’t get to the rim and he’s not a good defender. The shooting upside is absolutely huge. He’s virtually guaranteed to be a really good shooter at the next t level, and not just a catch and shoot guy, but off the dribble.

given the way Amen can pressure the rim I think it’s much more important to have a shooter than a rim finisher. Tre can go as high as #3 in this draft. I don’t think he makes it out of the top 6.

Asside from Amen, Bari, Reed, and Alpi, I'm good with just about any package for him. That includes future picks. He has a great verticle and was very mobile at the combine. He would be a perfect fit here. Charlottle would probably be willing to give him up if we sweetened the deal with the 10th and Tari. They are in desperate need of talent that fits the timeline of their two main guys. And they have the contracts to match. Green would look like an all star with all of the shooters with the Hornets.

Tre Johnson and his defensive problems probably has a lot more to do with how Texas leaned on him so much to bail them out offensivley.

    Good point.

If Amen is seen by the front office as THE guy, then all of our moves need to compliment his game.

I haven't done a deep deep scout yet but primiliarialy as prospects Jalen > Cam >>>>>>>>>>>> Tre would be my assessment, now that doesn't mean Tre can't end up being the better pro but it is a useful starting point to think of things

Tre is a much better shooter than both and at this point would most likely be considered a better prospect than both. Tre isn’t going to fall out of the top 5. You might have to go up as high as #3 to get him. Cam and #10 won’t get us there. Jalen and #10 might but the other team would have to love Jalen.

the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that #10 is a really bad spot to draft in. The top prospects are gone and you are just at the front of a massive tier of prospects. Can anyone know if Fleming, Clifford, Bryant, Coward, Sorber, etc. will be better than the other prospects in that tier? I like all those prospects. If we cant trade up I’ve come to believe that trading back or trading the pick entirely makes a lot more sense than picking at #10.

I mean Ime taught Jalen to be an above average defender I aint worried about Tre's defense.

The main issue is Johnson pretty much addressed a lot of the questions during the combine, he turned out to have great measurables and athletic AF, and the shooting is also really good.

He is a lock for top 5, its basically gonna be Bailey, Edgecomb and Tre 3-5 unless somebody does something wild.

#10 is still good cuz its valuable enough to trade down and get more assets. Alternatively if Rockets get that very specific guy they like such as a Carter Bryant or Cedric Coward they can just secure their guy without fcking around.

Trading the pick entirely is a huge ass mistake given the quality of players available. We can get a rookie in the teens/20s who would be seen as a mid lotto pick in other drafts. Why would we trade out? We have lots of extensions and will need guys on cheap rookie deals in the immediate future.

Tre has the ability to play very good defense. He has the ability to get to the rim. He was not asked to do those things at UT, and UT had a horrible offensive system.

Calling him "just a shooter/scorer" is incorrect, in my unhumble opinion.

This highlight video is the only thing I have seen of Tre... he looks like a professional scorer. Creates his own shot, great handles, mid-range, post up fadeaways, quick release, clutch shots, man he has it all.

That being said, it'd be nice to hear from a UT fan who watched all the games and has some deeper insight as to his strengths and weaknesses.

I’ve come to believe that trading up for Tre would be worth it. In one draft we’d instantly solve our backcourt shooting problem and be able to move off Jalen and his contract. Tre is gonna be an elite nba shooter.
